In a Country or community where persons unfit for being revered are revered, and those who deserve to be revered are shown disrespect and humiliated,   these three scourges, namely famine, death and fear prevail.

In enjoyment, there is fear of disease; in social position ,the fear of falling- off; in wealth the fear of (hostile) kings; in honour ,the fear of humiliation;in power, the fear of foemen; in beauty the fear of old age; in scriptural erudition, the fear of opponents; in virtue, the fear of traducers; in body, the fear of death; In fact every thing is fearful of something or other in this world, except the persons following   ‘Vairagya’ – Dispassion, who are always without any kind of fear.

By love, hatred, fear, friendship, also devotion to the lord in mind, many have have obtained liberation .For example:
Love – Gopis, Fear – Kamsa, Hatred – Sisupala, Association – Yadavas,  Friendship - You all (Pandavas), Bhakti - We (Sages like Narada).
Of course, we should not take this literally and start hating the lord. The key to this long winding approach is तन्मयत्वम् - complete absorption in the thought of Krishna.
One has to be nervous of an impending and fearful occurrence , but once it occurs he should cease to be nervous and face it directly.

Whose father is Courage, forgiveness is the mother, peace being the wife, truth being the son, compassion being sister, balance of mind being the brother - He who sleeps on the ground (does not crave for luxury), he for whom the directions are the clothes (does not care for attire), he who has the best knowledge for food - He who has the above for friend and family, why should he fear about problems ?

Food, sleep, fear and reproduction is what is common among animals and humans. It is "Dharma" [code of living] that separates us from animals. Without Dharma men are  same as animals.

If you are angry and no one is scared, then it is useless. Similarly if you are pleased and no one benefits from it, it is again a waste. There is no value attached to your anger or being pleased if it does not mean anything to any one.

Vidura niti
Uttamaaneva seveta praapte kale tu madhyamaan I
Adhamaamstu na seveta icchet shreya aatmanah II
He who wishes his own prosperity should attend only on those that are best, and in times of need on the middling, but never on those that are lowest (mean ).

Uttamam pranipaatena shooram bhedena yojayet I
Neecham alpapradaanena sama saktim parakramaih II
Win a strong and virtuous adversary by bowing down to him (Sama); a valiant adversary by creating fear or jealousy in his mind (Bheda); a mean but strong adversary by slightly rewarding him (Danam); an equally strong adversary by valour (Dandah).

Uttame cha kshanam kopo madhyame ghatikaadvayam I
Adhame syaadahoraatram paapishte maranaaantakah II
Anger stays in great people for a moment,  in the mediocre people for nearly two hours ,
in lowly people probably for a day and night, for the sinners, it is till the end of life.

Adhamaah dhanamicchanti dhanam maanam cha madhyamaah I
Uttamaah maanamicchanti maanohi mahataam dhanam II
Inferior or lowly persons crave only for wealth, whereas moderate people crave for both wealth and respect.  But great and honourable persons crave only for respect, because for them respect in society is the real wealth.

Uttamopraarthito datte madhyamah praarthitah punah.
Yaachakairyaachyamaanopi datte na tvadhamaadhamh.
Righteous and noble persons provide help to others without  being asked , whereas moderately noble persons do so after repeated requests. On the other hand persons worst among the worst never help even on being repeatedly requested by a petitioner or a beggar.

Uttamam svaarjitam vittasm madhyamam piturarjitam.
Adhamam bhraatruvittam cha streevittamadhamadhamam
The best form of wealth is the self-acquired wealth, and wealth inherited from one's father is just moderate, and that  acquired from a brother is of lowest category, whereas the wealth acquired from one's wife or a woman is of  the worst type.

Uttamo naativaktaa syaat madhyamo bahu bhashate,
Na kaanchan dhwanistaadruk yaadruk kaansya prajaayate.

Honourable persons never indulge in loose talks whereas ordinary persons talk too much unnecessarily, just as Gold (considered as best and costliest metal) does not produce a loud sound like bronze ( a base metal) on being struck.

ESHA DHARMA SANAATANAH- ( एष धर्मः सनातनः )

SUBHASHITHANI:162

aature niyamo naasti baale vruddhe tathaiva cha l
paraachaararate chaiva eSha dharmah sanaatanah ll
It is ordained in the ‘Sanaatan Dharma’, the Religion of Hindus, that sick or suffering people, children, aged persons as also  persons engaged in helping  the needy  persons, need  not (strictly) observe the established rules of good and righteous behaviour as prescribed in the Shastras (Scriptures).
satyasya vachanam shreyah satyaadapi hitamvadet
yadbhootahitamatyantam aitat satyam matam mama
Telling truth is recommended, but more than that, tell those things which are in the interest of all. According to me (nArada here) thing which is beneficial to large community, is truth.
Akrutyam naiva kartavyam praanaatyage api samsthite I
The work which is not to be done (because it is bad) should not be done even if you have to loose your life. And the work which has to be done (because it is your duty) - should be continued to be done even if it costs your own life! This is the sanatana Dharma.
satyaṃ brūyāt priyaṃ brūyāt na brūyāt satyamapriyam ।
priyañca nānṛtaṃ brūyāt eṣa dharmassanātanaḥ ॥  -manusmṛti
Speak the truth, and speak favorably. Do not tell the truth if it is not favorable. Also, do not tell an untruth (although) it is favorable.  This is the eternal dharma.

If you don't want a known person to fail in his act, you should counsel him if he seeks it. If he happens to be your friend, you should voluntarily give him the counsel even if he does not seek it from you. This is the quality of the good man.
Remaining without giving him your counsel with the thought that you would counsel him when he seeks it or why should you volunteer it when it is not asked for, is the quality of the bad man.
This subhAShita contains advice (from the Taittiriya Upanishad) to the bachelor student graduating from a Gurukula and before entering the stage of the householder (Grihasthashrama): speak truth, behave as dharma dictates, and do not miss self-study (svAdhyAya). After paying fees to the teacher (gurudakshina), do not interrupt family propagation.
Please listen to the essence of dharma and having listened to it, dwell on it in mind: Whatever is adverse (or unfavorable) to us, we should not adopt that in case of others. This is the Vedic equivalent of the Christian preaching: "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." [Matthew 7:120]
