Shyness or modesty is the jewel of women; Knowledge of the vedas is the ornament for Brahmins; Following Dharma( moral duty) is the jewel of every one; But the jewel of all jewels is knowledge with humility.

What decorates you? Fame. Not gems. What is one's duty? To live the noble way. Not sin. What gives you unlimited sight? Mind. Not eyes. What gives relief? Sweet words. Not Water.

Giving is the ornament for the hands, speaking truth is the ornament for the neck and throat, hearing about dharma shastras is the ornament for the ears; if a person is endowed with the above ornaments of what use are other decorations?

கண்ணிற்கு அணிகலம் கண்ணோட்டம் அஃதின்றேல்

Kind looks are the ornaments of the eyes; without these they will be considered (by the wise) to be merely wounds disfiguring face.
