TRUTH-SATYAM(4) SATYAMEVA JAYATI NAANRUTAM

SUBHASHITHANI:277

सत्यमेव जयति नानृतम् सत्येन पंथा विततो देवयानः।
येन आक्रमन्ति ऋषियो हि आप्तकाम  यत्र तत् सत्यस्य परमं निधानम् ।

Satyameva jayati na anrutam, satyena panthaa vitato devayaanah I

Yena aakramanti rushayo hi aaptakaama

 yatra tat satyasya param nidhaanam IIMundaka upanisad – 3.1.6

Truth alone triumphs, not untruth. By truth is laid out the path divine along which the seers , free from desires, ascend to the supreme abode of truth.

स्वयमेव समायान्ति सम्पदः सत्यवादिनां।
किं चित्रं यद् यदाऽऽयान्ति, हंसः पद्माकरं वनम्।।
Svayameva samaayaanti sapadah satyavaadinam I
Kim chitram yad yadaa aayaanti hamsah padmaakaram vanam II
To a truthful person prosperity  comes on its own; where is the surprise in this? Doesn’t the swan comes on its own to lotus pond .

गन्धेन हीनं सुमनं न शोभते दन्तैर्विहीनं वदनं न भाति ।
सत्येन हीनं वचनं न दीप्यते  पुन्येन हीन: पुरुषो जघन्य:
Gandhena heenam sumanam na shobhate dantair viheenam vadanam na bhaati Satyena heenam vachanam na deepyate punyena heenah purusho jaganyah II
Without  sweet smell flowers lose their merit; without the teeth the face loses its beauty; without truth speech loses its splendour; without punya man is doomed.

सत्येन शुध्यते वाणी मनो ज्ञानेन शुध्यति ।
गुरुशुश्रूषया काया शुध्दिरेषा सनातनी ॥
Satyena shudyate vaani mano gyaanena shudyati I
Guru sushrooshaya kaayaa shuddhiresha sanaatanee II
Speech is sanctified by truth; mind by spiritual knowledge; the body is purified by serving the guru. These purifications are eternal truths.

सत्येन धार्यते पृथ्वी सत्येन तपते रविः।
सत्येन वायवो वान्ति सर्वं सत्ये प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥
 Satyena dhaaryate prithvee satyena tapate ravih
Satyena vaayavo vaanti sarvam satye pratishthhitam
The earth is supported by Truth; by Truth the Sun radiates heat; by Truth the air blows; everything is established in Truth.

सत्यमेव वदेत् प्राज्ञः, सर्वभूतोपकारकं।
यद्वा तिश्ठेत् समालम्ब्य, मौनं सर्वार्थसाधकम्।।
Satyameva vadet praagyah, sarvabootopakaarakam I
Yadvaa tishtet samaalambhya, mounam sarvaartha saadhakam II
Wise men speak only truth which helps all beings; Otherwise to gain the purushartha dharma, artha,kaama, and moksha they follow mounam ( silence)

न हि प्रतिज्ञां कुर्वन्ति वितथां सत्यवादिनः
लक्षणं हि महत्त्वस्य प्रतिज्ञा परिपालनम् II 6.101.52
 Nahi pratijnaam kurvanti vithathhaam satyavaadinah
Lakshanam hi mahattwasya pratijnaaparipaalanam IIRamayana
Those who always adhere to truth do not make false promises.  Keeping one’s promises is, surely,  the mark of one’s  greatness. ( Lakshmana to Sri Rama )

सत्यानुसारिणी लक्ष्मीः  कीर्तिस्त्यागानुसारिणी।
अभ्याससारिणी विद्या  बुद्धिः कर्मानुसारिणी॥
Prosperity follows truth, fame follows renunciation, knowledge follows practice and mind follows actions.
