 SUBHASHITHANI:625

अर्थानामीश्वरो : स्याद् इन्द्रियाणामनीश्वर:
इन्द्रियाणामनैश्वर्याद् ऐश्वर्याद् भ्रश्यते हि : ।।.३४.६३
arthānāmīśvarō ya: syād indriyāṇāmanīśvara:
indriyāṇāmanaiśvaryād aiśvaryād bhraśyatē hi sa: ।।
He who is the master of riches but not of his senses, certainly loses his riches in consequence of his want of mastery over his senses.
अर्थानारभते बालो नानुबन्धमवेक्षते।
 तस्मादरिं मृष्यन्ति बालमर्थपरायणम्।।
Arthaanaarabhate baalo naanubhandamavekshayate I
Tasmat arim na mrushyanti baalamartha paraayanam II2-15-15
The one with childish understanding starts off the task without thinking about future consequences. Hence, such an enemy, serving his self-interests, and possessing immature understanding, is never forgiven.
अर्थी तु शक्यते भोक्तुं कृतकार्योऽवमन्यते
तस्मात्सर्वाणि कार्याणि सावशेषाणि कारयेत् १२.१४०.२०
Arthi tu shakyate bhoktum kkrutakaaryo avamanyate I
Tasmaatsarvaani kaaryaani saavasseshaani kaarayet II12.140.20
One takes note of someone else only till he needs other’s help for completing a job. Once the job is done he is sure to ignore the other. Hence, always leave some thing unfinished.
अर्थेन हि विहीनस्य पुरुषस्याल्पमेधसः
विच्छिद्यन्ते क्रियाः सर्वा ग्रीष्मे कुसरितो यथा १२..१८
Arthena hi vihinasya purushasyaalpamedhasah I
Vichidyante kriyaah sarvaa greesme kusarito yathaa II12.8.18
Of a person who has no money and  a little intellect, all his actions get destroyed like a small river in summer.
अर्थेभ्यो हि विवृद्धेभ्यः संभूतेभ्यस्ततस्ततः
क्रियाः सर्वाः प्रवर्तन्ते पर्वतेभ्य इवापगाः १२..१६
Arthebhyo hi vivruddhebhyah sambhootebhyas tatastatah I
Kriyaah sarvaah pravartante parvatebhya ivagaah II
By the treasures brought from place to place and augmented by means of various strategies, all the tasks are indeed fulfilled, as the rivers flow from the mountains." 
अर्थे सर्वे समारम्भाः समायत्ता संशयः
दण्डे समायत्तः पश्य दण्डस्य गौरवम् १२.१५.४८
Arthe sarve samarambhah samayaataa na samshayah I
Sa cha dande samaayatah pasya dandasya gauravam II
Wealth makes all activities possible,with out any doubt, which in turn is possible because of fear of punishment.
अर्धं भार्या मनुष्यस्य भार्या श्रेष्ठतमः सखा
भार्या मूलं त्रिवर्गस्य भार्या मूलं तरिष्यतः .७४.४१
Ardham bhaaryaa manushyasya bharyaa shreshtatamah sakhaa I
Bhaaryaa moolam trivargasya bhaaryaa moolam tarishyatah II
Wife is half of the Man and a man’s best friend. Wife forms the basis of Morality, prosperity and desire (dharma, artha, and kaama )  through which one attains salvation.
अलातं तिन्दुकस्येव मुहूर्तमपि हि ज्वल
मा तुषाग्निरिवानर्चिर्धूमायस्व जिजीविषुः .१३३.१४
Alaatam tindukasyeva muhurtamapi hi jvala I
Maa tushagnirivaanarchih dhoomaayasva jijeevishuh II
Like burning of a tree, blaze just only for a moment. Do not be like a fire of burning husk, keep giving out smoke, just for the sake of living.(Tinduka-a kind of tree).

अराजकेषु राष्ट्रेषु धर्मो व्यवतिष्ठते
परस्परं खादन्ति सर्वथा धिगराजकम् १२.६७.१३
Araajakeshu raashtreshu dharmo na vyavatishtate I
Parasparam cha khadanti sarvathaa dik araajakam II. 12.67.13
Righteousness cannot exist in anarchic nations. In a leaderless nation people kill each other; anarchy to be condemned at all times.
अरिणापि समर्थेन सन्धिं कुर्वीत पण्डितः
मूषिकश्च बिडालश्च मुक्तावन्योन्यसंश्रयात् १२.१३८.२०३
Arinaapi samartena sandhim kurveeta panditah I
Mooshikascha bidaascha muktaavanyonya samshrayaat II12.138.203
A wise man should make alliance with the enemy if he is powerful .The mouse and the cat both got out of trouble by taking shelter of each other.
अर्थं महान्तमासाद्य विद्यामैश्वर्यमेव वा
विचरत्यसमुन्नद्धो यः पण्डित उच्यते .३३.४०
Artham mahaantam aasaadya vidhyam isvaryamevavaa I
Vicharatyasamunnaddho yah pandita uchyate II5.33.40
That one is wise who, even after acquiring great wealth, learning or control over others goes about his job without being conceited in the least.
अर्थयुक्त्या हि जायन्ते पिता माता सुतस्तथा
मातुला भागिनेयाश्च तथा संबन्धिबान्धवाः १२.१३८.१४५
Arthayuktyaa hi jaayante pitaa maataa sutas tatha I
Maathula bhagineyaascha tatha smbandhi baandavah II12.138.145
Mutual relations of mother, father, son, maternal uncle, nephew and relatives  are maintained ultimately due to selfish interest.
अर्थसिद्धिं परामिच्छन् धर्ममेवादितश्चरेत्
हि धर्मादपैत्यर्थः स्वर्गलोकादिवामृतम् .३७.४८
Artha siddhim paraamichannu dharmameevaaditas charet I
Na hi dharmaadapaityarthah svargalokaadivamrutam II5.37.48

He that desires highest worldly prosperity should from the very outset practise virtue (dharma), for worldly prosperity is never divorced of virtue (dharma) as nectar is never of heaven.
अर्थस्य पुरुषो दासो दासस्त्वर्थो कस्यचित्
इति सत्यं महाराज बद्धोऽस्म्यर्थेन कौरवैः .४३.४१
Arthasya purusho daaso dasastvartho na kasyachit I
Iti satyam maharaja badhdho asmyarthena kauravaih II6.43.41
Man is a slave of money, money is no one's slave. This is the truth. I am bound to the Kauravaas due to living under their benevolence.
अर्थागमो नित्यमरोगिता
 प्रिया भार्या प्रियवादिनी
वश्यश्च पुत्रोऽर्थकरी विद्या
 षड् जीवलोकस्य सुखानि राजन् .३३.८२
arthAgamo nityamarogitA cha
 priyashcha bhAryA priya-vAdinI cha |
vashyashcha putro'rthakarI cha
 vidyA ShaD jIvalokasya sukhAni rAjan ||
 O king! regular income, being always healthy, loving and sweet spoken wife, obedient son. desirable friend and meaningful learning; These six are the pleasures of this living world.
अर्थाद्धर्मश्च कामश्च स्वर्गश्चैव नराधिप
प्राणयात्रापि लोकस्य विना ह्यर्थं सिध्यति १२..१७
Arthat dharmascha kaamascha svargaschaiva naraadipa I
Praanayatrapi lokasya vinaa hyartham na siddhayati II
O king! It is with wealth that one can hope to attain dharma, kaama and svarga. With out wealth even daily living becomes a burden.

  SUBHASHITHANI:623

अमित्रो विमोक्तव्यः कृपणं बह्वपि ब्रुवन्
कृपा तस्मिन्कर्तव्या हन्यादेवापकारिणम् .१४०.२२
Amitro na vimoktavyah krupanam bahvapi bruvan I
Krupa na tasmin kartavyaa hanyaadeva apakaarinam II
Never let your enemy free even if he repeatedly pleads for it;  
Kill the wrongdoer without showing any mercy to him. 1.140.22
अमित्रो मित्रतां याति मित्रं चापि प्रदुष्यति
सामर्थ्य योगात्कार्याणामनित्या वै सदा गतिः १२.१३८.१३
Amitro mitrataam yaati mitram chaapi pradushyati I
Saamarthya yogaatkaaryaanaamanityaa vai sadaa gatih II12.138.13
An enemy becomes  friend , and a friend also becomes enemy; through  combination of circumstances , human actions become uncertain.
अमृतस्येव सन्तृप्येदवमानस्य तत्त्ववित्
विषस्येवोद्विजेनित्यं संमानस्य विचक्षणः १२.२२९.२१
Amrutasyeva santruyet avamaanasya tatvavith I
Vishasyevodvije nityam sammaanasya vichakshanah II12.229.21
A knower of the truth should be satisfied with insult as with nectar; And the wise should hate honour like poison.
अयुध्यमानो म्रियते युध्यमानश्च जीवति
कालं प्राप्य महाराज कश्चिदतिवर्तते ११..
Ayudhyamaano mriyate yudhyamaanasya cha jeevati I
Kaalam prapya maharaja na kaschid ati vartate II 11.2.5
O king, even one who does not step into battle dies, and a man can live even after fighting hard. In short, when the time comes, no one can resist it.
अरक्षितारं राजानं बलिषड्भागहारिणम्
तमाहुः सर्वलोकस्य समग्रं पापचारिणम् .२१३.
Arakshitaaram raajaanam balishad bhaagahaarinam I
Tamaahuh sarvalokasya samagram paapachaarinam II1.213.9
A king who does not protect his subjects and takes one-sixth of the income from the subjects as tax, is said to take the sins of all the subjects.
अरक्षितारं हर्तारं विलोप्तारमनायकम्
तं वै राजकलिं हन्युःप्रजाः संनह्य निर्घृणम् १३.६१.३२
Arakshitaaram hartaaram viloptaaram anayakam I
Tam vai rajakalim hanyuh prajaah sannahya nirghrunam II13.61.32
The king who does not protect his people confiscates their wealth, who is deprived of able leadership, that wretched king should be mercilessly killed by the people by taking him  hostage.
अरण्ये विजने न्यस्तं परस्वं दृश्यते यदा
मनसापि हिंसन्ति ते नराःस्वर्गगामिनः १३.१४४३३१
Aranye vijane nyastam parasvam drusyate yadaa I
Manasaapi na himsanti te naraah svarga gaaminah II
Those men, who do not desire even in their mind to grab some property which they see lying in a deserted forest, will go to heaven.
