SUHRID BHEDA- SEPARATION OF FRIENDS-23

 

SUBHASHITHANI:562

ययोर् एव समं वित्तं ययोर् एव समं बलम्
तयोर् विवादो मन्तव्यो नोत्तमाधमयोः क्वचित् १६६
yayor eva samaṃ vittaṃ yayor eva samaṃ balam |
tayor vivādo mantavyo nottamādhamayoḥ kvacit || 2.166 ||
Only between those who are equal in wealth or strength there can be meaningful controversies not between worst and the best.
मन्त्रिणा पृतिवी पालचित्तं विघटितं  कचित् I
बलयं स्फटिकस्येव  को हि संधातुमीस्वरः  II
Manrinaa prutivee paalachittam vighatitam kachit I
Balayam spatikasyeva ko hi samdhatumeesvarah II2.167
When a king’s mind is alienated from the minister who can join it together, like crystal bracelet when broken?
वज्रंच राजतेजस्च द्वयमेवाति भीषणं I
एकमेकत्र पतति पतन्यन्यत्ममन्ततः  II
Vajramcha raajatejascha dvayamevaati bheeshanam I
Ekamekatra patati patanyanyanyatmamantatah II2.168
The thunder bolt and king’s severity are both extremely frightening; but one falls in a single spot and the other all around.
मृतः प्राप्नोति वा स्वर्गं शत्रुं हत्वा सुखानिवा I
उभावपि हि शूराणां गुणावेतौ सुदुर्लभौ  II
Mrutah prapnoti vaa svargam shatrum hatva sukhanivaa I
Ubhavapi hi shooraanaam gunaavetau sudurlabhau II2.169
A brave warrior attains heaven if dead, if he has killed the enemy, he attains pleasures; these two benefits are available only to the valiant and is rare.
यत्रा युद्धे ध्रुवं मृत्युर्युद्धे जीवित संशयः I
तमेव कालं युद्धस्य प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः II
Yatraa yuddhe dhruvam mrutyur yuddhe jeevita samshayah I
Tmeva kalam yuddhasya pravadanti maneeshinah II2.170
When in peace there is certain destruction and in war chance of life, then that, the wise declare to be the time for battle. 
अयुद्धे हि यदा पश्येन् काञ्चिद् हितम् आत्मनः
युध्यमानस् तदा प्राज्ञो म्रियते रिपुणा सह १७०
ayuddhe hi yadā paśyen na kāñcid hitam ātmanaḥ |
yudhyamānas tadā prājño mriyate ripuṇā saha || 2.171 ||
When one feels there are no benefits in peace time to himself, then the wise man dies in a combat.

जयंच लभते लक्ष्मी मृतेनापि सुरङ्गनां I
क्षण विध्वांसिनः कायाः का चिन्ता मरणे रणे II
Jayamcha labhate Lakshmi mrutenaapi suraanganaam I
Kshana vidvaamsinah kaayaah kaa chintaa marane rane II2.172
In victory one obtains prosperity, in death a celestial bride; bodies perish in a moment, why then one worry about death in battle?

बलवानपि निस्तेजाः कस्य नाभि भवास्पदं I
निः शङ्कं दीयते लोकेः पश्य भस्मचये
पदं  II

Balavaanapi nistejaah kasya nabhi bhavaaspadam  I
Nishankham deeyate lokeh pasya bhasmachaye padam II2.173
To whom is a man, destitute of energy, although strong, is not an object of humiliation? Lo! People fearlessly put their foot upon a heap of ashes.
