Generally, the wealth of misers never allows them any happiness. In this
life it causes their self-torment, and when they die it sends them to hell.

Theft, violence, speaking lies, duplicity, lust, anger, perplexity,
pride, quarrelling, enmity, faithlessness, envy and the dangers caused by
women, gambling and intoxication are the fifteen undesirable qualities that
contaminate men because of greed for wealth. Although these qualities are
undesirable, men falsely ascribe value to them. One desiring to achieve the
real benefit of life should therefore remain aloof from undesirable material
wealth.

and their anger is inflamed. Acting as rivals, they quickly give up all sentiments of goodwill and will reject one at a moment’s notice, even to the point of committing murder.

Whatever belongs to you will come to you , even Gods cannot change that.
That is why I do not get either disappointed or surprised. No one else can take
whatever is mine.

If one wants wealth only so that he
can spend it on Dharma (charity and other noble deeds), then it is better to
give up the longing. It is better keep your feet clean by staying away from mud
than clean it after getting dirty.

A fool does not do charity for the
fear of himself becoming poor(by losing the wealth). A wise man does charity
exactly for the same fear that he may become poor if he did not do charity now.
