SUBHASHITHANI:652
A honey-bee acquires honey while protecting the flowers; similarly money (for tax) must be collected from people without any harassment.
samAjebhyaH sumanasAm
subhAShitamayam madhu ।
yAvajjIvaM vichinvanti sAdhavo madhupA iva ॥ – harihara subhAShita
A wise man must accumulate good
sayings from other wise men as long as he lives. Subhashitas as sweet as honey.
And we must be as tireless as bee to collect them
mandaṁ hasantaṁ prabhayā lasantaṁ
vēṇuṁ nitāntaṁ madhu vādayantaṁ
Whose laughters is subtle, who glows with lustre, who always attracts people's mind and the one who plays the melodious flute, I remember that young (baby) Lord Krishna in my mind.
When he looks at the honey comb hanging off
the cliff, a fool sees only honey. He does not see the danger of falling into
the valley below. Just like that people only see the short term pleasures and
not their consequences
lubdhena sañcitaṃ dravyaṃ samūlaṃ hi vinaśyati॥
Grain collected by an ant, honey collected by bees, and wealth accumulated by a greedy person, will all be destroyed along with its source.
Donate or consume, but don't
accumulate wealth.
Someone else takes the accumulated honey of the
bee.
Honey bees feed upon the nectar of
lotus flowers and are
covered with the pollen of Saffron flowers, but woe betide the
Destiny, beautiful Swans have to remain content by eating the
moss grown under the water.
Never believe a wicked
person even if he/she speaks in your favor because there may be honey on his
tongue but poison in his heart.
To control an elephant with a lotus stem, or trying to cut a diamond with the delicate petals of the shirisha flower, or sweetening the salty ocean with a drop of honey — these are equivalent to want to reform the wicked with nectar sweet advice.
