DEFER NOT VIRTUE TO ANOTHER DAY

Subhashitham: 011
This subhashitha is from a great collection of slokas called “Dharma saara

When a man dies what follows him is only the fruits of his good and bad deeds. All the wealth are left behind, the relatives and friends follow  up to the burning ghat, the body is consumed by the funeral pyre.

It is due to this reason Thiuvalluvar says:

Defer not virtue to another day .
 Do deeds of virtue now Say not , 'To-morrow we'll be wise';
Thus, when thou diest, shalt thou find a help that never dies.

There are a set of people who think that they can commit murder etc and feel that they have nothing to answer if they commit  suicide. The sasthraas are very clear that the results of one's actions follow him  even after death.

In a herd of thousands of cows, their calves recognise their respective mothers and then follow them. In the same manner, the deeds done by a person also follow him thereby implying that ultimately he has to face the consequences of good or bad deeds done by him.
