Don’t trust a person
untrustworthy, also don’t trust one who has won
your confidence for faith has its own
limits; The evil that trust brings Leaves
you totally destroyed. (The monkey thinking to himself after the narrow escape)

स मृत्युम् उपगृह्णाति गर्भम् अश्वतरी यथा ॥ १५ ॥
sakṛd duṣṭaṃ ca yo mitraṃ punaḥ sandhātum icchati |
sa mṛtyum upagṛhṇāti garbham aśvatarī yathā || 4.15 ||
Once made an enemy
and then tries to make friendship, he surely invites death like a pregnant
female mule.
बुभुक्षितः किं न करोति पापं
क्षीणा जना निष्करुणा भवन्ति ।

averse to indulging in cruel acts; Tell Priyadharshana that Ganga datta will
not come to the well.
The story of GangaDatta and
PriyaDarshana
Ganga datta - King of frogs
Priya dharshana - Black snake

In times of
difficulty one who wronged someone, and a person who has laughed at someone
when in distress; by paying both as they deserve, a man is considered to be
born again.
( Living a life of constant ridicule and insult is considered as death; any action to come out of it is considered as having a new life. )
शत्रुभिर् योजयेच् छत्रुं बलिना बलवत्तरम् ।
स्व-कार्याय यतो न स्यात् काचित् पीडात्र तत्-क्षये ॥ १८ ॥
śatrubhir yojayec chatruṃ balinā balavattaram |
sva-kāryāya yato na syāt kācit pīḍātra tat-kṣaye || 4.18 ||
One should set an
enemy against an enemy; and against a powerful one even greater powerful one;
thus, one can get rid off his enemy and avoid any further harassment.
शत्रुम् उन्मूलयेत् प्राज्ञस् तीक्ष्णं तीक्ष्णेन शत्रुणा ।

śatrum unmūlayet prājñas tīkṣṇaṃ tīkṣṇena śatruṇā |
vyathā-karaṃ sukhārthāya kaṇṭakenaiva kaṇṭakam || 4.19 ||
A wise man should
root out powerful enemy by pitting him against another powerful enemy, as one
removes a thorn by another thorn.

yasya na jāyate śīlaṃ na kulaṃ na ca saṃśrayaḥ |
na tena saṅgatiṃ kuryād ity uvāca bṛhaspatiḥ || 4.20 ||
One should not form
friendship with those whose prowess, pedigree, performance of actions is
unknown; Bruhaspati has said so.
