LABDA PRANAASAM- LOSS OF GAINS- PTLP-2

 SUBHASHITHANI:456

मयि ते पाद-पतिते किङ्करत्वम् उपागते
त्वं प्राण-वल्लभे कस्मात् कोपने कोपम् एष्यसि

mayi te pāda-patite kiṅkaratvam upāgate |
tvaṃ prāṇa-vallabhe kasmāt kopane kopam eṣyasi || 4.8 ||

When I am at your feet

And at your service, sweet,

सार्धं मनोरथ-शतैस् तव धूर्त कान्ता
सैव स्थिता मनसि कृत्रिम-भाव-रम्या
अस्माकम् अस्ति कथञ्चिद् इहावकाशं
तस्मात् कृतं चरण-पात-विडम्बनाभिः

sārdhaṃ manoratha-śatais tava dhūrta kāntā

 saiva sthitā manasi kṛtrima-bhāva-ramyā |
asmākam asti na kathañcid ihāvakāśaṃ

 tasmāt kṛtaṃ caraṇa-pāta-viḍambanābhiḥ || 4.9 ||

Oh! clever cheat, that dearly loved one, on whom you have pinned hundred sweet desires, is indeed residing in your heart, attracted by her feigned love, I have no place in your heart; so, enough of this falling at my feet.

वज्र-लेपस्य मूर्खस्य नारीणां कर्कटस्य
एको ग्रहस् तु मीनानां नीली-मद्य-पयोस् तथा १०

vajra-lepasya mūrkhasya nārīṇāṃ karkaṭasya ca |
eko grahas tu mīnānāṃ nīlī-madya-payos tathā || 4.10 ||

For fools, women, fish and crab one grab is enough they will not let go of it; very much the same like adhesive paste, indigo and drunkard.

ब्रह्मघ्ने सुरापे चौरे भग्न-व्रते शठे
निष्कृतिर् विहिता सद्भिः कृतघ्ने नास्ति निष्कृतिः ११

brahmaghne ca surāpe ca caure bhagna-vrate śaṭhe |
niṣkṛtir vihitā sadbhiḥ kṛtaghne nāsti niṣkṛtiḥ || 4.11 ||

For the murderer of a vedic scholar, a drunkard, a thief or for one who has violated a solemn vow; The learned have prescribed expiation; but for the ungrateful, there is no expiation.

எந்நன்றி கொன்றார்க்கும் உய்வுண்டாம் உய்வில்லை
செய்ந்நன்றி கொன்ற மகற்கு.-Thirukkural 110
There is redemption for men who are guilty of every other crime; but the ungrateful wretch shall know of none.

वर्जयेत् कौलिकाकारं मित्रं प्राज्ञतरो नरः ।                                          
आत्मनः सम्मुखं नित्यं आकर्षति लोलुपः १२

varjayet kaulikākāraṃ mitraṃ prājñataro naraḥ |
ātmanaḥ sammukhaṃ nityaṃ ya ākarṣati lolupaḥ ||4.12 ||

A wise man should avoid a friend who behaves like a weaver. Such a friend is greedy for money, and so keeps pulling one towards himself ( keen on serving his own interest).

ददाति प्रतिगृह्णाति गुह्यम् आख्याति पृच्छति
भुङ्क्ते भोजयते चैव षड्-विधं प्रीति-लक्षणम् १३

dadāti pratigṛhṇāti guhyam ākhyāti pṛcchati |
bhuṅkte bhojayate caiva ṣaḍ-vidhaṃ prīti-lakṣaṇam || 4.13 ||

Giving and accepting, confiding secrets, enquiring about one’s welfare, accepting the food that one gives, and sharing one’s food with the other – these are the signs of a good friendship.
