Rain
on the seas, feeding the well fed, charity given to the rich
And lighting a lamp during day time are all a waste.

Aayushh kshana ekopi sarvaratnena labhyate I
naayate sa vrathaa yena pramaadh sumahaanho II
Even
a single second in life cannot be obtained back by all precious jewels. Hence
spending it wastefully is a great mistake.

A
soldier may be very brave and courageous. His courage is useless if he does not
have any weapons. Just like that, having lot of knowledge is useless if you
cannot articulate it well so that other people can understand.

Thirukkural-650
Those who are unable to set forth their
acquirements (before others) are like flowers blossoming in a cluster and yet
without fragrance.

Satyaheenam tapo vyartam ooshare vapanam yathaa II
Worship
devoid of truth is a waste; Japam without truth is useless; Austerities without
truth is also in vain, just as sowing seed in barren land.

Garjanti na vruthhaa shooraah nirjalaa iva toyadaah..
"Warriors do not roar in vain as waterless
clouds. Hear my roar, only on completion of my said task in battle."
(These
are the words of Kumbhakarna addressed to Ravana)

Daanam poojaa tapaschaiva teerta sevaa shrutam

Sarvameva vritha tasya yasya shuddham na maanasah II
Charity,
prayer, austerity, visiting sacred rivers, and listening to scriptures All
these actions will be in vain for a man whose mind is not pure.
न देहिनां सुखं किञ्चिद् विद्यते विदुषामपि ।
तथा च दु:खं मूढानां वृथाहङ्करणं परम् ॥ १८ ॥SB11.10.18

It
is observed within the material world that sometimes even an intelligent person
is not happy. Similarly, sometimes even a great fool is happy. The concept of
becoming happy through expertly performing material activities is simply a
useless exhibition of false egotism. ( Prabhu pada)
