CHORAH-चोरः-THIEF

   SUBHASHITHANI:665

Vidya cannot be shared by relatives. It cannot be taken away by a thief. It does not decrease by giving. Gem, that is knowledge, is the greatest wealth.

It cannot be stolen by thieves, Nor can it be taken away by kings. It cannot be divided among brothers, It does not cause a load on your shoulders. If spent.. It indeed always keeps growing. The wealth of knowledge Is the most superior wealth of all!
durjanasya arjitam vittam bhujyate raajataskaraih ll
The wealth accumulated by a wicked person is not used for the benefit of the God (religious places of worship), nor for the other religious purposes, nor is it used for the benefit of the family, nor is it used for the benefit of the destitute. It is used by the ruler (through the taxes) or by the thieves
Yaavat bhriyate jatharam taavat satvam hi dehinnaam.
Adhikam yobhimanyeta sa steno dandamarhati.
All living beings remain alive until such time their stomach
sustains them.  So, if they crave for more than their requirements
they deserve to be punished as a thief.
Where the king himself behaves like a thief, the ministers, purohits also behave in the same way. In such a state what can anyone do: what the king does others follow his example.
।BG 3.12
।।
iṣhṭān bhogān hi vo devā dāsyante yajña-bhāvitāḥ
tair dattān apradāyaibhyo yo bhuṅkte stena eva saḥ
The gods, nourished by the sacrifice, will give you the desired objects. So, he who enjoys the objects given by the gods without offering anything in return is indeed a thief.
A thief hates the moon, an adulterer hates a householder, wicked man hates a person with good character, an unchaste woman is envious of a virtuous lady and a man with no good family background criticises a man of noble birth. Likewise, a youth may leave a aging man, a illiterate person may leave a learned man and a mean may leave a wealthy person. One with splendid beauty gets hit by ugly ones, an enlightened person by a stupid and cultured by a uncultured one.

  1. A mixture of thoughts. Meaning and result of theft varies - vidya , dhanam, or food.
Selection here compares in sayings of yore.
