शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तुते ॥
Shubham Karoti Kalyaannam-Aarogyam Dhana-Sampadaa |
Shatru-Buddhi-Vinaashaaya Diipa-Jyotir-Namostute ||
Salutations to light of the deepak (lamp) which ushers in auspiciousness, health and prosperity and destroys ignorance – is the enemy of our intellect.
उत्थानहीनो राजा हि बुद्धिमानपि नित्यशः ।
धर्षणीयो रिपूणां स्याद्भुजंग इव निर्विषः ॥ १६ ॥
utthānahīno rājā hi buddhimānapi
nityaśaḥ |
dharṣaṇīyo ripūṇāṃ
syādbhujaṃga iva nirviṣaḥ || 16
||
A
lazy and inactive King (or a Ruler) although he may be
intelligent and righteous in nature, is like a harmless and non-
poisonous snake in the eyes of his enemies and is unable to protect
himself and his kingdom ..
अग्निशेषम् ऋणशेषम् शत्रुशेषम् तथैव च |
पुन: पुन: प्रवर्धेत तस्मात् शेषम् न कारयेत् ||Maha Bharatham
If
a fire, a loan, or an enemy continues to exist even to a small extent, it will
grow again and again; so do not let any one of it continue to exist even to a
small extent.
रोगं चालस्यसंयुक्तं स शनैस्तेन हन्यते ||
ऋणकर्ता पिता
शत्रुर्माता च व्यभिचारिणी ।
भार्या रूपवती शत्रुः पुत्रः शत्रुरपण्डितः ॥
A father who is a chronic debtor, an adulterous mother, a
beautiful wife, and an unlearned son are enemies ( in one's own home).
माता शत्रुः पिता वैरी, येन बालो न पाठितः ।
न
शोभते
सभामध्ये, हंसमध्ये बको यथा ॥ ०-२९
mAtA
shatruH pitA vairI, yena bAlo na pAThitaH |
na shobhate sabhAmadhye, haMsamadhye bako yathA
||
mother and father are enemies. by whom the child is not educated |
(who) doesn't grace the (august) assembly, as
the crane amongst swans||
Āturē vyasanē prāptē durbhikṣē śatrusaṅkaṭē.
Rājadvārē śmaśānē ca yastiṣṭhati sa bāndhavaḥ.
He is a true friend who does not forsake us in time of need, misfortune, famine, or when fighting an enemy, in a king’s court, or at the crematorium (smasana).
शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु समः सङ्गविवर्जितः ॥ BG12.18
He who is the same to foe and friend, and also in honour and dishonour, who is the same in cold and heat and in pleasure and pain, who is free from attachment . .
