We have a few very enlightening slokas on "Achaaraa" in this blog.
आचारः परमो धर्म आचारः परमं तपः।
आचारः परमं ज्ञानम् आचरात् किं न साध्यते॥
ācāraḥ paramo dharma ācāraḥ paramaṁ tapaḥ|
ācāraḥ paramaṁ jñānam ācarāt kiṁ na sādhyate||
Good conduct is the highest dharma, it is the greatest penance.
It is also the greatest knowledge. What can't be achieved through good conduct?

Mental repetition is better than understanding of the sastras.
Practising of the knowledge is even better than mere repetition of the same.

A man's lineage may be discerned by his conduct, his country
by his pronunciation of language, his friendship by his warmth and glow, and
his capacity to eat by his body.

In virtuous deed and truthful word, and chastened thought.

"Dharma is born of good conduct, it is that which brings
the highest welfare to man; Great is the fame here that he gets by observing
it, and supreme beatitude in the world yet to come."

Righteous living is the basis of
dharma - the moral code of life. The sages have known this for ever. So they
say that every penance has its root in righteous living.
कर्तव्यम् आचरं कामम् अकर्तव्यम् अनाचरम् |
तिष्ठति प्राकॄताचारो य स: आर्य इति स्मॄत: ||
A person who does the
things which are to be done and who doesn’t do the things which are not to be
done; a person who sticks to rational behaviour (or behaves rationally), is
called "Arya".
नाधर्मश्चरितो राजन् सद्यः फलति गौरिव ।
शनैरावर्त्यमानो हि कर्तुर्मूलानि कृतन्ति ॥ महाभारत, आदि
If you stray from path of Dharma, you
will not know its repercussions right then. It is not like raising cattle whose
benefits are there to be seen immediately. The consequences of unlawful acts
will slowly act to cut your very roots.

Misery hurts the family. Intoxication destroys
well-being. The fruits of education are spoiled by hatred. Character is spoiled
by having friendship with rogues. By doing sinful acts one destroys his fame.
Laziness makes you lose wealth. Greed destroys honour. But beggary destroys all
qualities that a man has.

आचारप्रभवो धर्मो धर्मस्य प्रभुरच्युतः ॥ १७ ॥ sarvāgamānāmācāraḥ prathamaṁ parikalpate | ācāraprabhavo dharmo dharmasya prabhuracyutaḥ ||
Good
conduct is the beginning of all traditional precepts. Dharma is born of good
conduct. Achutaa is the lord of all dharmas.
