GREAT MEN(2)-MAHA JANAH-महाजन: , सज्जना

SUBHASHITHANI:213
The great universal spirit, the Mahatma, whose activities are for the world, is not for any confinement, or limitation, but for the universe. Therefore this Deva himself is called Vishvakarma. He is the Infinite Soul, whose activities are for the whole. He dwells in the hearts of all. The Infinite Soul, whose activities are boundless and whose dwelling place is in the hearts of all human beings, he is the Mahatma.-Ravindra Nath Takur

Arguments are inconclusive; the scriptures hold varied views,
there’s not a single rishi whose words can be taken as pramana,
the truth about dharma is hidden in darkness
The path trod by great men is the true path

There are good souls, calm and magnanimous, who do good to others as does the spring, and who, having themselves crossed this dreadful ocean of birth and death, help others also to cross the same, without any motive whatsoever.

The good people always receives the virtues and good qualities and leaves the bad qualities like a winnow; Taking the bad and leaving the good, the bad men are like strainers.

The wicked people pick only the bad, similar to a pig [which eats garbage];
On the other hand, Good people always receives the virtuous qualities [ignoring the vices] much like a swan that takes milk and leaves water behind!"
कुपितोऽपि गुणायैव गुणवान् भवति ध्रुवम्।
स्वभावमधुरं क्षीरं क्वथितं हि रसोत्तरम्॥
A man possessing good qualities surely serves only a good cause even when he gets angry; milk which is sweet by nature becomes all the more tasty when it is boiled.

With the noble men, friendship lasts for the life time ; anger is transitory and lasts for a moment only; and wealth has no attraction for them.

People worship the lord of waters (ocean) by offering (consecrated) water to him
and wave lights before the sun (to illumine him). Do these two things enhance their fullness? Great people are indeed pleased by devotion.

अधमा धनमिच्छन्ति मानो हि महतां धनम्‌॥

Best of the men seek honour; the mediocre seek wealth and honour.
Those in bottom (inferior) seek [only] wealth. Honour is wealth to great men.

An act of favour and an unfavourable act — these are to be considered alike. On doing a favour, everyone will [be ready to] return the favour/help. One who remains good, even on being wronged, he indeed is a noble soul.

Curbing the desire, practicing patience, giving up pride, not interested in committing a sin, Speaking the truth, following the footsteps of the good, serving the scholars, Respecting the honourable, pleasing even enemies, being modest, Protecting fame and kind towards the distressed. These are the actions of the good.

One well born (of a high stature), though insulted, does not hit back owing to their innate natural courtesy. The sandal tree of the Malaya mountain does not exude foul smell even to the one who cuts it with an axe!

For defeating Lanka [for Lord Rama], the sea had to be crossed by foot. The enemy  was powerful   RavaNa, and Rama was assisted  on the battlefield by mere monkeys All odds were against Lord Rama. Despite all this, one Lord Rama killed all the demons. Success of great men depends solely on their own capacities, and not on the means they get to use.
