SUBHASHITHANI:362
vanāni dahato vahneḥ sakhā bhavati mārutaḥ ।
sa eva dīpanāśāya kṛśe kasyāsti sauhṛdam ॥
The air that blows off a small lamp becomes the friend of a forest fire! No one wants to strengthen friendship with a weak person.
ekena śuṣkavṛkṣeṇa
dahyamānena vahninā ।
dahyate tadvanaṃ sarvaṃ kuputreṇa kulaṃ yathā ॥
Even a single
dried-up tree in a forest on catching fire results in the burning of the entire
forest. Similarly, a wicked and prodigal son also brings in disgrace to his
family and ultimately results in destruction of the family.

In a forest, in a battle, amongst enemies, amidst water or
fire, in a vast ocean or on the tip of a mountain, while asleep, awake or in
danger - virtuous deeds from (our) past are the protectors.
One should not touch the following with his feet: Fire, preceptor, vedic scholar, cow, a girl, elders, and a child.
Akshamaavaan param doshair aatmaanam chaiva yojayet II
Fire fallen on a grassless plot is extinguished by itself. A man without patience brings unto himself many troubles.

Just as the fire, on contacting an object, automatically burns it, so the name of Hari takes away or burns up all the sins of the people with worldly attachments. It removes (harati) all ignorance and reveals the transcendental, blissful form of the Lord.
tatsarvaṃ dānamityāhuḥ yadi klaibyaṃ na bhāṣate ॥
Anything burnt in a fire, drowned in water, snatched by thieves or kings - all these would be called 'dāna' (giving), only if one doesn't speak woefully of it.

amṛtaṃ rāja-saṃmānam amṛtaṃ kṣīra-bhojanam || 139 ||
Finding fire in cold weather, meeting a person dear to you, at the right time, praise from the king and tasty kheer prepared with milk are all obtained only through one’s good fortune.
api nirvANam AyAti na analo yAti shItatAm ॥
Any person with self-respect would prefer death to humiliation (or living thus). Fire will cease to exist, but never get cold.
