COW- धेनु:- गावः

 SUBHASHITHANI:612

Bhuktvā tṛṇāni śuṣkāni pītvā toyaṃ jalāśayāt
Dugdhaṃ dadati lokebhyaḥ gāvo lokasya mātaraḥ
After eating dry grass and drinking water from the stream, cows give milk to people. They truly, are like mothers to the world.

Ekavarnam yatha dugdham bhinnavarnasu dheneshu
Tathaiva dharmavaichitryam tattvamekam param smrutam
As cows of different colours produce milk of the same colour, similarly, different religions instruct about the one ultimate reality.

Difference between a deserving and non-deserving person is like the difference between a cow and a snake. While the cow will give you milk when you feed her grass, the snake gives venom when you feed with milk.

kāmadhenugunā vidyā hyakāle phaladāyinī
pravāse mātsadśī vidyā gupta dhana smtam
Learning is like a cow of desire. It, like her, yields in all seasons. Like a mother, it feeds you on your journey. Therefore learning is a hidden treasure.

Yatha Dhenu Sahashtreshu Vatso Vindati Maataram
Tathaa Poorva Kratam Karma Kartaaram anugachhati

Calf recognises its mother among the herd of thousands of cows; the same way, karma of previous birth (good and bad deeds) goes with the doer.

krodho vaivasvato raajaa truShNaa vaitaraNee nadee

vidyaa kaamadudhaa dhenuh santoSho nandanam vanam II shukraneeti

Anger is the King of Death (Yama), greed (desire) is the river VaitaraNI (in the Hell). (However)Knowledge is (like) the cow which fulfills all wishes (Kamdhenu), (and) bliss is the paradise.

sarvopanishado gavo dogdha gopalanandana:
parthovatsa: sudheerbhoktha dugdham gitamrutam mahat
If All upanishads are likened to  cows. The milker is the son of the cowherd, Krishna; Arjuna, son of prutha, is the calf; the men of purified intellect are the drinkers and the milk is the supreme nectar of Gita.

Paropakaaraya phalanti vrukshaah, parokaaraya vahanti nadhyaah I
Paropakaaraya duhanti gaavah, paropakaaraartham idam sareeram II
Trees give fruits for others to eat, Rivers flow for others to use, cows give milk for the sake of others and this body should be used to help others.

Ravischandro gana vruksha nadee gaavascha sajjanaah I
Ete paropakaaraaya yuge daivena nirmitaa II
The sun, the moon, the clouds, trees, rivers, cows, and good men- all these were created by the gods specifically to help others.
