SUBHASHITHANI:609
sva-sainyena
tu sandhānam ātmādiṣṭa udāhṛtaḥ |
kriyate prāṇa-rakṣārthaṃ sarva-dānād upagrahaḥ || 4.128 ||
Making common cause with
one’s own army is called ‘atmaadhishta’
that which is made for the preservation of life , after sacrificing
everything , is called ‘Upagrahah’.
kośāṃśenārdha-kośena
sarva-kośena vā punaḥ |
śiṣṭasya pratirakṣārthaṃ parikraya udāhṛtaḥ || 4.129 ||
The peace achieved by
offering a part, half, or entire treasure, to save what is left is called ‘Parikraya’.
bhuvāṃ sāravatīnāṃ tu dānād ucchinna ucyate |
bhūmy-uttha-phala-dānena sarveṇa para-bhūṣaṇaḥ || 4.130 ||
paricchinnaṃ phalaṃ yatra pratiskandhena dīyate |
skandhopaneyaṃ taṃ prāhuḥ sandhiṃ sandhi-vicakṣaṇāḥ || 4.131 ||
parasparopakāras
tu maitrī sambandhakas tathā |
upahāraś ca vijñeyāś catvāraś caiva sandhayaḥ || 4.132 ||
Peace achieved by
reciprocal obligation(Pratikara), that based on friendship(Samgata), that based
on relationship(Samtana), and that secured by offering gifts (Upahara)- these
four are considered the preferred strategies of Sandhi.
eka
evopahāras tu sandhir etan mataṃ hi naḥ |
upahārasya bhedās tu sarve'nye maitra-varjitāḥ || 4.133 ||
Achieving pace by’Upahara’
is what is recommend by me; all others are deprived of real friendship.
abhiyoktā
balī yasmād alabdhvā na nivartate |
upahārād ṛte tasmāt saṃdhir anyo na vidyate || 4.134 ||
A powerful enemy will not
retire without obtaining something; therefore there is no other strategy other
than ‘Upahara’ to achieve pace.
ādhi-vyādhi-parītāpād
adya śvo vā vināśine |
ko hi nāma śarīrāya dharmāpetaṃ samācaret || 4.135 ||
Who will act destitute of justice
for the sake of the body, which to-day or later is doomed to destruction by body
or mental anguish?
SRI KRISHNAYA THUBHYAM NAMAH
