AGAIN AND AGAIN -PUNAH PUNAH- (पुनः पुनः)

SUBHASHITHANI:160

Vidura observes in the MahAbhArata, "One loses the discriminating intellect (pragyaa) by committing errors of judgment (pApa) again and again and one who has lost that ability keeps on repeating the same errors."
पुण्यं प्रज्ञां वर्धयति क्रियमाणं पुनः पुनः
वृद्धप्रज्ञः पुण्यमेव नित्यमारभते नरः ५३॥

One’s store of merit (punya) increases by doing good deeds again and again and one who is blessed with discriminating intellect keeps on doing worthy things.

A balance of debt, remainder of fire, (and) residue of enemies too - keep growing again and again; hence do not protect these leftovers.

In spite of being burnt in fire again and again Gold does not lose its
lustre and colour, and similarly the stem of sugarcane on being cut into
pieces does not shed its sweet taste.   Sandalwood also does not give up
its fragrance  in spite of being rubbed again and again on a stone .   In
the same manner noble and righteous persons of highest integrity do not
allow any change in their nature and good behaviour even on the face of
imminent death.

Birth is misery, Old age is misery,  Spouse is a misery now and again,
The final moments are most sorrowful,Therefore, beware, beware, beware!

Wealth,  friends, wife and landed property if lost can be

acquired again and again , but not this human body (bestowed upon us by the God Almighty).
अदान दोषेण भवेद् दरिद्रो दारिद्र दोषेण करोति पापं I
पापादवस्यं नरकं प्रयाति पुनर दरिद्रः पुनरेव पापी II
One who is not liberal with his wealth in the previous birth , is born a poor . Being poor he indulges in sinful activities. That makes him suffer in hell (Narakam). Then again he is born a poor, indulges again in sin and the cycle continues.

"Till such time  I see Seetha, the wife of Sri Rama and one with fame, till then I will search the city of Lanka again and again."  ( Hanuman in Sundara Kanda )
पुनरपि जननं पुनरपि मरणं   पुनरपि जननी जठरे शयनम् |

Punarapi jananam punarapi maranam,  Punarapi janani jatare sayanam,I
Iha samsaare khalu dusthare,  Krupayaa pare pahi murare. II
Again and again one is born, And again and again one dies, And again and again one sleeps in the mother’s womb, Help me to cross, This limitless sea of Life,Which is difficult to cross , my Lord.
आलोड्य  सर्व -शास्त्राणि  विचार्य  च  पुनः  पुनः I

इदं  एकं  सुनिष्पन्नं  ध्येयो  नारायणो  सदा II
After a deep study of all the Sastras and  repeated inquiries into their purport, we come to the conclusion that the deity to be meditated upon constantly is Narayana.
