POISON-VISHAM -(विषं)

SUBHASHITHANI:153
mokSham icChasi chet tAta viShayAn viShavat tyajeH ।
kShamArjavadayA shaucham satyaM pIyUShavat pibeH ॥
If you want to attain salvation, then you should shun sensory pleasures as if it were poison. You must embrace forgiveness, simplicity, compassion, cleanliness, truth as if it were elixir.

Even a good turn done to a bad man results in evil. Drinking of milk by snakes is only going to result in increase of their poison.
mUrkheNa saha samyogaH viShAdapi sudurjaraH ।
vijnena saha samyogaH sudhA rasa samaH smRutaH ॥
To befriend and deal with a fool will do greater damage than poison. The same with a wise man is sweeter than nectar.
pAtra apAtra viveko asti dhenu pannagayoH iva।
tRuNAt sanjAyate kShIram kShIrAt sanjAyate viSham ॥
There is definitely visible difference between good and the bad - just like the difference between a cow and a snake. One eats grass and gives milk. The other drinks the same milk and gives out venom.
vRishchikasya viShaM puchchhe, makShikAyAshcha mastake |
takShakasya viShaM dante, sarvAMge* durjanasya cha ||
The scorpion holds its poison only in the tail; the bee in its mouth; and the snake in its teeth. Poison, however, pervades the entire body of the wicked.
anabhyAse viShaM vidyA, ajIrNe bhojanaM viShaM |
viShaM sabhA daridrasya, vRiddhasya taruNI viShaM ||
when not practiced, knowledge is poison; in indigestion, food is poison |
poison is gathering/festivities of poor; old man's young wife is poison ||
vikRutiM naiva gachChanti saMgadoSheNa sAdhavaH |
AveShTitaM mahAsarpaishchaMdanaM na viShAyate |
|Bad company does not induce changes (bad habits) in a good person just as the poisonous snake embracing a sandalwood tree cannot render it poisonous.
nirviSheNApi sarpeNa kartavyA mahati phaNA |
viShamastu na chApyastu phaTATopo bhayaMkaraH ||

A non-poisonous snake should imitate the poisonous one and raise its hood as if to bite the potential adversary. Regardless of whether the snake has poisson or not, the hissing sound will strike terror in the other's mind.
viShAdapyamRutaM grAhyaM bAlAdApi subhAShitam |
amitrAdapi sadRUttaM amedhyAdapi kAMchanam ||

Nectar is still acceptable even if it is found in poison; important insight might be found in child talk. Imbibe therefore good qualities even from a non-friend and accept gold even if it is found in grime.

By poison or by a weapon you can kill only one. But when a king handles matter chaotically the kingdom along with the people die.

Fire can be put out by water. An umbrella can be used as protection from the sun. The rutty elephant can be controlled with an ankush (a weapon with a sharp hook at one end used by a mahout). A cow or donkey can be herded with a stick. A disease can be treated with medicines. Poison can be counteracted by chanting mantras. There is a remedy for everything prescribed in the shaastras. But there is no remedy for the fool.
In this poisonous tree called 'samsaara' (life), there are only two fruit equivalent to the divine nectar (amrutam). One is the taste of subhaaShitas, other is the company of good people.
