BEGIN-UNDERTAKE-AARAMBHAM-AARABHATE-आरम्भं ,आरभते

SUBHASHITHANI:266

सरस्वति नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि ।
विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा ॥
saraswati namastubhyam varadé kāmarūpii |
vidyārambham karihyāmi, siddhirbhavatu mé sadā || 
Saraswatī, salutations for you, O Giver of boons, O Kāmarūpiṇī ,  I am going to start studies, may success be mine, always.
Sarasvati appears with swan. Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, learning and creative arts, while swan is a symbol of spiritual perfection, liberation and moksha. The symbolism of Sarasvati and the swan is that knowledge and moksha go together.)





अफलानि दुरन्तानि समव्ययफलानि  
अशक्यानि कार्याणि नारभेत विचक्षणः 
aphalāni durantāni samavyayaphalāni ca ।
a
śakyāni ca kāryāṇi nārabheta vicakaa

Wise men do not begin the following four tasks: That which are fruitless, that which ends miserably, where results are just breakeven,and that which are beyond one’s capability.
आरभन्तेऽल्पमेवाज्ञाः कार्यं व्यग्रा भवन्ति च ।
महारम्भाः कृतधियः तिष्ठन्ति च निराकुलाः ॥ - शिशुपालवध
ārabhante'lpamevāāḥ kārya vyagrā bhavanti ca ।

ārambhāḥ ktadhiya tiṣṭhanti ca nirākulāḥśiśupālavadha

Even when embarking upon a small job, the unwise get restless and anxious. (Whereas) the wise take up huge tasks and remain unperturbed!
आरभेतैव कर्माणि श्रान्तः श्रान्तः पुनः पुनः ।
कर्माण्यारभमाणं हि पुरुषं श्रीर्निषेवते ॥ Manusmruti
 ārabhetaiva karmāṇi śrānta śrānta puna puna |
karmāṇyārabhamāṇa hi purua śrīrnievate || 9.300 ||
Tired and tired, over again he should begin his operations; for fortune favours the man who perseveres with his undetakings.
आरब्धमब्धिमथनं स्वहस्तयित्वा द्विजिह्वममरैर्यत्
उचितस्तत्परिणामो विषमं विषमेव यज्जातं ।।
Aarabdam abdhi mathanam svahastayitvaa dvijihvam amarairyat I
Uchitas tatparinaamo vishamam vishameva yajjaatam II

Devas and Asuras  started  to churn the ocean with the snake ( Vasuki ) as rope, expecting to get nectar; alas! At the end they had to face the adverse result of deadly poison coming out.
आरम्भरमणीयानि विमर्दे विरसानि च ।
प्रायो वैरावसानानि संगतानि खलैः सह ।।
Aarambha ramaneeyani vimarde virasaani cha I
Praayo vairaavasaanaani samgataani khalaih saha  II
Association with the wicked starts nicely, becomes disagreeable after passage of time, and then in a flash becomes enmity.
आरम्भरुचिताऽधैर्यमसत्कार्यपरिग्रहः
विषयोपसेवा चाजस्रं राजसं गुणलक्षणम् Manusmruti
ārambharucitā'dhairyamasatkāryaparigraha |
viayopasevā cājasra rājasa gualakaam || 32 ||
Proneness to undertake work, impatience, commission of improper acts, constant addiction to sensual objects are the characteristics of the’ Rajasic ‘men.( Show great speed in starting a project and not in completing them )
पीडनानि सर्वाणि व्यसनानि तथैव
आरभेत ततः कार्यं सञ्चिन्त्य गुरुलाघवम् Manusmruti
pīḍanāni ca sarvāṇi vyasanāni tathaiva ca |
ārabheta tata kārya sañcintya gurulāghavam || 299 ||
The king (Project managers in to-day’s context) shall begin operations only after having taken into consideration all possible obstacles and hostile forces , and their relative importance.—(299)
दुरनुबन्ध कार्यं न आरभेत ॥ १४॥Chanakya sukti
Duranubandha kaaryam na aarabheta I
One must not take up the job whose outcome is not ascertained before hand.
தொடங்கற்க எவ்வினையும் எள்ளற்க முற்றும்
இடங்கண்ட பின்அல் லது.Kural-491

Begin no work of war, despise no foe,
Till place where you can wholly circumvent you know.
प्रारभ्यते खलु विघ्न भयेन नीचैःf
प्रारभ्य विघ्नविहता विरमन्ति मध्याः।
विघ्नैः पुनः पुनरपि प्रतिहन्यमानाः
प्रारभ्य चोत्त्मजना परित्यजन्ति॥Niti satakam
praarbhyate na khalu vighna bhayena niicheeha
aarabhyavighna vihataaha virmanti madyaha
vighnai puna punarpi pratihanyamaanaa
praarabhyamuktamajanaa na parityajanti
II 27

The people of lower category will not start the work worrying about possible obstacles, where as the mediocre will start the work and drop the wok  when they face  obstacles , but noble men  will complete their work in spite of repeated  difficulties.
 आरम्भगुर्वी क्षयिणी क्रमेण लघ्वी पुरा वृद्धिमती पश्चात्
 
दिनस्य पूर्वार्धपरार्धभिन्ना छायेव मैत्री खलसज्जनानां ।Niti satakam
Heartfelt in the beginning, but dwindling with time; faint at first, and blossoming over time. Thus differ friendships of the immoral and moral, much like a shadow contracts and lengthens during the two halves of a day. ||49||
आरभ्यते महत्कार्यं यैः क्षुद्रैरपि पार्थिवैः
 
ते चक्रवर्तिनो भूत्वा जायन्ते भद्रभाजनं ।।
Aarabyate mahatkaaryam yaih kshudrairapi paartivaih I
Te chakravartino bhootvaa jaayante bhadrabhaajanam  II
Even  rulers of  petty kingdoms, if they engage themselves in great tasks , they will soon become Maharajas  and will be acclaimed as a receptacle of prosperity.
