Ati daanad balirbaddhah ati sarvatra varjayet  II
Too much beauty is what lead to the kidnapping of Sita. Ravana got killed because of too much pride. Bali's progress was curtailed because of too much charity. One should refrain from 'too much' of anything.

विनष्टो रावणो लौल्यादति सर्वत्र वर्जयेत्।
Ati daanat balirbaddhah atimaanaat suyodhanah.
Vinashto raavano laulyaat atih sarvatra varjayet.
Maha Bali was vanquished due to his excessive charitable nature. Duryodhana was humbled by his excessive pride and jealousy, Ravana was destroyed due to excessive lust. Hence one should shun’excess’ in anything.

One must get over lust by teaching oneself detachment. By giving up lust, one can give up anger. One will give up greed once he realises that wealth is the source of so many miseries. Fear can be let go by proper understanding of scriptural truth.
अभ्यस्य वेदशास्त्राणि तत्त्वं ज्ञात्वाऽथ बुद्धिमान्
पलालमिव धान्यार्थी सर्वशास्त्राणि संत्यजेत्
One must study all the vedas and other scriptures. Understand the truth behind them.
Once done, a wise man will leave the scriptures behind and take only the knowledge.
Just like anyone interested in the grains will leave the husk behind. Scriptures are only a means and not the end.
