DHEERAH-(3)-धीर:-BRAVE, RESOLUTE

 SUBHASHITHANI:314

anggaNavedI vasudhA kulyA jaladhiH sthalI cha pAtAlam |

To a person of firm conviction the vast earth is like a courtyard , the ocean a small pond , the netherworld (Patala) like a picnic spot and mount Meru like ant hill.

IIVidura niti

Happiness and sorrow, prosperity and poverty, gain and loss, these visit all by turns. Therefore the brave should neither rejoice or bewail.
Thrunolkaya gyaayate gyaana roopam vruttena bhadro vyavahaarena saaduh I
Shooro bhayeshvartha kruchcheshu  dheerah kruchevaava tsu suhrudaas chaarayascha II
The gold is identified by burning in fire, nobility is known by one’s action, a virtuous man
is known by his conduct . A hero is known in danger, the valiant in difficulty, and friends
and foes in dire calamities .
Ashta vakra gita
The wise who always see self only, are neither pleased nor get angry whether they are feted or tormented.॥3.9॥
– viduraneeti
sudurbalam naavajaanaati ki~nchit yukto ripum sevate buddhipoorvam
He who does not show even a little contempt towards the weak, handles the enemies with discern, steers clear from having a conflict with the stronger and demonstrates valour is brave.-

The self-existent ( svayambhu)  created the senses out-going: therefore, one sees outside and not the âtman within. Some intelligent man, with his senses turned away, (from their object), desirous of immortality, sees the âtman within.
Vidura niti
Gathering up the wise sayings and the noble deeds of the great , scattered here and there one should remain persevering like sadhus who live by picking grains left over in the field after the harvest(uncha vrutti).
IIVidura niti

This body is the chariot, buddhi (intellect)  is the charioteer and the senses are the horses. One who controls all these travels happily in this world like the charioteer who has controlled the horses of the chariot.

। Ramayana - 2.105.39।।

A wise man, holding on to his fortitude in all circumstances, should avoid such occasions of grief, these words of lamentation and this crying.
