PANCHA TANTRA- SUBHASHITHANI-5

 SUBHASHITHANI:319

There were two foxes named Karataka and Damanaka , the sons of the minister. At present they were without jobs and followed the lion king Pingala always trying to win his favour. The following slokas are discussions between the two foxes.

A man who wishes to meddle in affairs with which he is not concerned meets with destruction like the ape that pulled out the wedge

The wise men seek shelter with the king because it will be conducive to the welfare of their own kith and kin, and harmful to the enemies of oneself. Who does not fill his belly ?

When life is lived by men even for a second getting praised for their achievements in arts, valour, wealth, and nobility of character, that alone is said to be a life worth lived for-so say the wise ones. Even a crow lives for long eating the crumbs thrown as offering to it.

Give to the poor and live with glory. There is no greater profit to man than that.

He who does not directly or indirectly act kindly towards his relatives or the needy or the servants , what is the use of his life on this earth? Even a crow lives for long eating the crumbs thrown as offering to it.

A tiny stream becomes full with just a little water; the hands of the mouse full with just with tiny bits of food; A man without ambition is satisfied and feels happy with just a little gain.

What is the use of a person who is just born to steal away the youth of his mother, who does not ascend high on top of his family like a flag?

In this world , where birth and death follow each other in rotation, who that dies doesn’t born again? He is considered born in this world , who out shines others in his family.
