vardhamāno mahān sneha siha-go-vṛṣayor vane |
piśunenātilubdhena jambukena vināśita || 1.1 II

The increasing true friendship between the lion and the bull in the forest was destroyed by  a deceitful  greedy fox.

CREATING RIFT AMONG FRIENDS

In the southern region, there is a city named 'Mahilaaropya'.There lived a merchant's son , named Vardhamaanaka, who had made a huge fortune by honest means. One night he started musing - Even if one is rich ,one should think of means to enhance it and do what ever is necessary.
IMPORTANCE OF WEALTH

nahi tad vidyate kicid yad arthena na siddhyati |
yatnena matimāṃs tasmād artham eka prasādhayet ||1.2||
There is nothing that is not possible to attain through wealth. So, an intelligent man should only strive to earn wealth.
yasyāryas tasya mitrāṇi yasyārthās tasya bāndhavāḥ |
yasyārthāḥ sa pumāṃ loke yasyārthāḥ sa ca paṇḍita || 1.3 ||
He who has wealth has friends;he  has relatives;he is well-respected in the world; he is a learned man.
na sā vidyā na tad dānaṃ na tac chilpaṃ na sā kalā |
na tat sthairyaṃ hi dhanināṃ yācakair yan na gīyate || 1.4 ||
There is not the kind of knowledge,no charity, no skill, no art, and no firmness which is not sung of (as possessed by) wealthy by supplicants.
Iha loke hi dhanināṃ paro 'pi svajanāyate |
svajano 'pi daridrāṇāṃ sarvadā durjanāyate ||1. 5 ||
In this world, even a stranger acts as a relative towards the rich; where as even a relative acts wickedly towards a poor man.
arthebhyo 'pi hi vṛddhebhyaḥ saṃvṛttebhya itas tataḥ |
pravartante kriyāḥ sarvāḥ parvatebhya ivāpagāḥ || 1.6 ||
When wealth is accumulated from various sources, and when it keeps increasing abundantly, then all works get accomplished effortlessly ,like the rivers flowing down from the mountain.
