PANCHA TANTRA-MITRA BHEDAA-22

 SUBHASHITHANI:338

Wisemen realise early in their lives that pursing materialism leads to bondage , and follow spiritual life and attain peace. Wicked men follow the path of materialism and ignorance and suffer the consequence.-( Story of Aashadabooti and Devasharman )

śūdro vā yadi vānyo ‘pi caṇḍālo ‘pi jaṭādharaḥ |
dīkṣitaḥ śiva-mantreṇa sa bhasmāṅgī śivo bhavet || 178 ||

A man, may be from any strata of the society,  if initiated in the right manner, and guided by a proper Guru, will indeed become like Lord Shiva.

He who offers even a single flower to the Shiva Linga with his own hands, and chants the holy mantras, will never be born again.

durmantrān nṛpatir vinaśyati yatiḥ saṅgāt suto

 lālasād vipro ‘nadhyayanāt kulaṃ kutanayāc chīlaṃ khalopāsanāt |
maitrī cāpraṇayāt samṛddhir anayāt snehaḥ pravāsāśrayāt strī

 garvād anavekṣaṇād api kṛṣis tyāgāt pramādād dhanam || 180 ||

A king is ruined by bad counsel, an ascetic by keeping company, son by over indulgence, a Brahmin by not studying the vedas, a family by having a bad son, character by keeping bad company, friendship by lack of affection, prosperity by bad behaviour, love by moving away, woman by arrogance, cultivation by lack of interest, and wealth by not being vigilant – they all face ruin this way.

samprāpto yo ‘tithiḥ sāyaṃ sūryoḍhe gṛha-medhinām |
pūjayā tasya devatvaṃ prayānti gṛha-medhinaḥ || 181 ||

tṛṇāni bhūmir udakaṃ vāk-caturthī ca sūnṛtā |
satām etāni harmyeṣu nocchidyante kadācana || 182 ||

Houses of good men never lack these four things – A grass mat and soft ground to rest on, water to quench thirst, and pleasant words to speak.

durdivase ghana-timire duḥsañcārāsu nagara-vīthīṣu |
patyur videśa-gamane parama-sukhaṃ jaghana-capalāyāḥ || 184 ||

On dark, cloudy days, when the roads are deserted, and when the spouse is away, lustful people feel very happy.

paryaṅkeṣv āstaraṇaṃ patim anukūlaṃ manoharaṃ śayanam |
tṛṇam iva laghu manyante kāminyaś caurya-rata-lubdhāḥ || 185 ||

Comforts at home, and an understanding spouse, are both treated with disdain, by the one who cheats and has affairs.

keliṃ pradahati lajjā śṛṅgāro ‘sthīni cāṭavaḥ kaṭavaḥ |
vandha-trayāḥ paritoṣo na kiṃcid iṣṭaṃ bhavet patyau || 186 ||

Nothing a spouse does pleases the ones who cheat – intense love, romance, even pleasant talk – all go unnoticed.

kula-patanaṃ jana-garhāṃ bandhanam api jīvitavya-sandeham |
aṅgīkaroti kulaṭā satataṃ para-puruṣa-saṃsaktā || 187 ||

Bad name for the family; ridicule from people; even a prison sentence, or their lives in danger; a person who cheats on their spouse accept all this without hesitation.
