अकुत्सिते कर्मणि यः प्रवर्तते
The man filled with desires will find no solace in the forest. On the other hand keeping senses under control is a penance even at home. If one is sincere in his work and rejects all lustful desires – his own house becomes a tapovanam.
अरण्यं तेन गन्तव्यं यथारण्यं तथा गृहम् ॥
Maataa yasya gruhe naasti bhaaryaa cha priyavaadini I
Aranyam tena gantavyam yataaranyam tatha gruham II
In whose house there is no mother and the wife is not soft-spoken, what he will do by going to a jungle because as is the jungle so is the home for him.
व्यधितस्यौषधं मित्रं धर्मो मित्रं मृतस्य च ॥
vidyaa mitra.n pravaseShu bhaaryaa mitram gRRiheShu cha I
vyaadhitas yauShadham mitram dharmo mitram mRRitasya cha II
Knowledge is a person's friend in foreign land, at home wife is the best friend, medicine is a sick person's friend, 'dharma' is the only friend after death.
मृदुना रक्ष्यते भूपः सत्स्त्रियां रक्ष्यते गृहम् ||Chanakya Niti
Vittena rakshyate dharmo Vidyaa yogena rakshyate.
Mrudunaa rakshyate bhoopah satstriyaa rakshyate gruham.
The Morality is sustained by charitable use of wealth, and knowledge gets protected by its continuous use. A king must be protected (served) very politely and gently, and a home gets protection by its virtuous women family members.
मूर्खस्य च दिशः शून्याः सर्व-शून्या दरिद्रता ॥Hitopadesa
mūrkhasya ca diśaḥ śūnyāḥ sarva-śūnyā daridratā ||1.121 ||
The house of the sonless is void, and so is of one who has no friends; all the quarters are void to a fool; but everything is void to a poor man.
अर्थनाशं मनस्तापं गृहे दुश्चरितानि च ।
वञ्चनं चापमानं च मतिमान् न प्रकाशयेत् ॥Chanakya
niti
arthanaasha.n manastaapa.n gRRihe dushcharitaani cha
vaJNchana.n chaapamaana.n cha matimaan na prakaashyet
Wise people do not talk about - loss of wealth,
sadness in heart, family scandal, getting cheated, and insult.
दुष्टा भार्या शठं मित्रं भृत्यश्चोत्तरदायकः ।
ससर्पे च गृहे वासो मृत्युरेव न संशयः ॥

sasarpe cha gRRihe vaaso mRRityureva na sa.nshayaH
The person who has a bad wife, a betrayer as a
friend, a servant who answers back, and
a snake in house; it is same as living in perpetual death.
सुकृतं दुष्कृतञ्चैव गच्छन्तमनुगच्छति ।।
sukṛtaṃ duṣkṛtaṃ caiva gacchantamanugacchati ॥ mahābhārata
