यच्छन् जलम् अपि जलदो वल्लभताम् एति सकल-लोकस्य ।
नित्यं प्रसारित-करो मित्रो ऽपि न वीक्षितुं शक्यः ॥ ७८ ॥
yacchan
jalam api jalado vallabhatām eti sakala-lokasya |
nityaṃ
prasārita-karo mitro 'pi na vīkṣituṃ śakyaḥ || 2.78 ||
A cloud giving mere water
becomes dear to all people, while the sun with his hands (rays)always
out-stretched is not capable of even being looked at.
यद् दीयते विवेक-ज्ञैस् तद् अनन्ताय कल्पते ॥ ७९ ॥
yad dīyate viveka-jñais tad anantāya kalpate || 2.79 ||
अतितृष्णाभिभूतस्य शिखा भवति मस्तके ॥ ८० ॥
atitṛṣṇābhibhūtasya śikhā bhavati mastake || 2.80 ||
अकृतेऽप्य् उद्यमे पुंसाम् अन्य-जन्म-कृतं फलम् ।
शुभाशुभं समभ्येति विधिना संनियोजितम् ॥ ८१ ॥
akṛte'py
udyame puṃsām anya-janma-kṛtaṃ phalam |
śubhāśubhaṃ samabhyeti vidhinā saṃniyojitam || 2.81 ||
Even though no effort may
be made for it, the good or bad fruit obtained from previous births, come to
men as ordained by fate.
यस्मिन् देशे च काले च वयसा यादृशेन च ।
कृतं शुभाशुभं कर्म तत् तथा तेन भुज्यते ॥ ८२ ॥
yasmin
deśe cha kāle cha vayasā yādṛśena cha |
kṛtaṃ śubhāśubhaṃ karma tat tathā tena bhujyate || 2.82 ||
Just as good or evil done by a man in a by-gone life at a particular place, or time or stage of life, so is its fruit experienced by him.
शनैः शनैश् च भोक्तव्यं स्वयं वित्तम् उपार्जितम् ।
रसायनम् इव प्राज्ञैर् हेलया न कदाचन ॥ ८३ ॥
śanaiḥ
śanaiś ca bhoktavyaṃ svayaṃ vittam upārjitam |
rasāyanam iva prājñair helayā na kadācana || 2.83 ||
The wise enjoy the wealth earned by their own effort, in small doses, like
taking a potent medicine, and not carelessly.
आयुः कर्म च वित्तं च विद्या निधनम् एव च ।
पञ्चैतानि हि सृज्यन्ते गर्भस्थस्यैव देहिनः ॥ ८४ ॥
āyuḥ
karma ca vittaṃ ca vidyā nidhanam eva ca |
pañcaitāni hi sṛjyante garbhasthasyaiva dehinaḥ || 2.84 ||
Duration
of life, nature of profession, prosperity, knowledge and time of death of a
person; these five are decided even while he is in the mother’s womb.
सकृद् अपि दृष्ट्वा पुरुषं विबुधा जानन्ति सारतां तस्य ।
हस्त-तुलयापि निपुणाः पल-प्रमाणा विजानन्ति ॥ ८५ ॥
sakṛd
api dṛṣṭvā puruṣaṃ vibudhā jānanti sāratāṃ tasya |
hasta-tulayāpi nipuṇāḥ pala-pramāṇā vijānanti || 2.85 ||
The wise men know the mettle of a person, just by a single glance.
Experts can guess the weight of an object just by weighing it in their hands.
