WEALTH IS POWER !!-PTML12

 SUBHASHITHANI:402

vāñchaiva sūcayati pūrvataraṃ bhaviṣyaṃ

 puṃsāṃ yad anya-tanujaṃ tv aśubhaṃ śubhaṃ vā |
vijñāyate śiśur ajāta-kalāpa-cihnaḥ

 pratyudgatair apasaran saralaḥ kalāpī || 2.86 ||

The inclinations of the mind of men indicates, well in advance, a future event, good or bad, as determined by their past existence; a young peacock without its plumage, can be known to be a peacock when moving away from a lake with steps backwards (like a grownup peacock).

chittvā pāśam apāsya kūṭa-racanāṃ bhaṅktvā balād vāgurāṃ

 paryantāgni-śikhā-kalāpa-jaṭilān nirgatya dūraṃ vanāt |
vyādhānāṃ śara-gocarād api javenotpatya dhāvan mṛgaḥ

 kūpāntaḥ-patitaḥ karotu vidhure kiṃ vā vidhau pauruṣam || 2.87 ||

A stag that had cut off a snare, destroyed a trap, torn to pieces a net, and escaped from a forest fire, fell in to a well and died after successfully running away from a hunter’s arrows; of what avail is one’s effort when fate is adverse.

yad utsāhī sadā martyaḥ parābhavati yaj janān |
yad uddhataṃ vaded vākyaṃ tat sarvaṃ vittajaṃ balam || 2.88 ||

A man’s vivacity, despising others or uttering derogatory words, is all arising out of arrogance due to wealth he owns.

arthena balavān sarvo 'py artha-yuktaḥ sa paṇḍitaḥ |
paśyainaṃ mūṣakaṃ vyarthaṃ sajāteḥ samatāṃ matam || 2.89 ||
Every one is powerful because of wealth; Look at this mouse! With all his wealth gone he is just like any other mouse of his kind.

daṃṣṭrā-virahitaḥ sarpo mada-hīno yathā gajaḥ |
tathārthena vihīno 'tra puruṣo nāma-dhārakaḥ || 2.90 ||

A serpent without fangs, an elephant destitute of rut, and a man without wealth exist only in name – they are powerless.

The words of the indigent will carry no weight even when they expound grand truths with masterly skill and knowledge

arthena ca vihīnasya puruṣasyālpa-medhasaḥ |
vyucchidyante kriyāḥ sarvā grīṣme kusarito yathā ||2.91 ||

Of a person who has no money and a little intellect,
all his actions get destroyed like a small river in summer.

Vyuchidyante-become extinct )

yathā kāka-yavāḥ proktā yathāraṇya-bhavās tilāḥ |
nāma-mātrā na siddhau hi dhana-hīnās tathā narāḥ || 2.92 ||

Kaaka-yavaa (a kind of empty- barren-corn) or wild sesamum seeds are said to exist only in name and lead to no reproduction, it is the same with men without money.

santo 'pi na hi rājante daridrasyetare guṇāḥ |
āditya iva bhūtānāṃ śrīr guṇānāṃ prakāśinī || 2.93 ||

If one is poor no one will notice his good qualities; It is wealth which reveals the virtues in men like the sun lights up the whole world.
