He who sacrifices his life
for the sake of a cow, a vedic scholar, for saving his wife or wealth being
taken away and in a battle field attains the world of eternal-bliss.

Whatever
an individual is supposed to get (by his good fortune), even God cannot deny
him. Hence, I am neither sad nor elated. What belongs to us can never be
someone else’s.

One is said to have
committed greatest sin if one indulges in illicit relationship with guru’s
daughter, friend’s wife and wife of the
master or servant.

One should not act in such a way that brings infamy, or will be
condemned to hell, or pushed down from heaven.

vikāraṃ yāti no cittaṃ vitte yasya kadācana |

To clear all doubts about
the sincerity of a friend, the wise men declare that testing of friends should
be made with these signs, as that of sacrificial fire is enjoined by wise
sages.
āpat-kāle
tu samprāpte yan mitraṃ mitram eva tat |
vṛddhi-kāle tu samprāpte durjano 'pi suhṛd bhavet || 2.116 ||
He who stands by you in times of trouble, and does not change his
behaviour towards you in troubled times, is a true friend. When you are
prosperous, even the wicked will stand by you.

dṛśyate mitra-vidhvastāt kāryād vairī parīkṣitaḥ || 2.117 ||
No one is a friend and no one is an enemy forever. It is one’s
behaviour and actions that are the true test of friendship or enmity.
