LABDA PRANASAM:LOSS OF GAINS- PTLP-10

 SUBHASHITHANI: 465

tāḍitā api daṇḍena śastrair api vikhaṇḍitāḥ |
na vaśaṃ yoṣito yānti na dānair na ca saṃstavaiḥ || 4.66 ||

A woman does not yield either when beaten with sticks or cut in to pieces with weapons; She would also not be satisfied by gifts, praises or flatteries.

āstāṃ tāvat kim anyena daurātmyeneha yoṣitām |
vidhṛtaṃ svodareṇāpi ghnanti putram api svakam || 4.67 ||

Let this be aside; Why mention any other wickedness on the part of women? When they are angry they even go to extent of killing their own child.

rūkṣāyāṃ sneha-sad-bhāvaṃ kaṭhorāyāṃ sumārdavam |
nīrasāyāṃ rasaṃ bālo bālikāyāṃ vikalpayet || 4.68 ||

It is only a fool who Attributes falsely friendly attitude to One who speaks rudely; hard-hearted young woman is thought of as kind; sentiment to one who is devoid of it.

The story of the farmer’s naked wife -

The crocodile, like the old man of the sea, is going on and on with further stories to the monkey:

yādṛśaṃ mama pāṇḍityaṃ tādṛśaṃ dviguṇaṃ tava |
nābhūj jāro na bhartā ca kiṃ nirīkṣasi nagnike
 || 4.69 ||

You have double the intelligence that I have. Your lover is gone. You lost your husband as well. Oh naked lady, what are you waiting for?

gṛdhreṇāpahṛtaṃ māṃsaṃ matsyo 'pi salilaṃ gataḥ |
matsya-māṃsa-paribhraṣṭe kiṃ nirīkṣyasi jambuke || 4.70 ||

The meat was stolen by the vulture, the fish went into the water, you lost the meat, and the fish, so what are you waiting for, o fox?

mitraṃ hy amitratāṃ yātam aparaṃ me priyā mitrā |
gṛham anyena ca vyāptaṃ kim adyāpi bhaviṣyati || 4.71 ||

I have lost a good friend, my wife is no more, my house has been occupied by some one else. What more calamities remain to happen? ( The crocodile thinking to himself )

kṣate prahārā nipatanty abhīkṣṇam

 anna-kṣaye vardhati jāṭharāgniḥ |
āpatsu vairāṇi samudbhavanti

vāme vidhau sarvam idaṃ narāṇām || 4.72 ||

Once you are wounded, it is likely to happen again at the same spot; hunger increases when there is scarcity of food; when you are in danger the enemies are delighted; all this happen when fate is adverse.
