LABDA PRANASAM:LOSS OF GAINS- PTLP-11

 SUBHASHITHANI:466

यः पृष्ट्वा कुरुते कार्यं प्रष्टव्यान् स्व-हितान् गुरून्
तस्य जायते विघ्नः कस्मिंश्चिद् अपि कर्मणि ७३

yaḥ pṛṣṭvā kurute kāryaṃ praṣṭavyān sva-hitān gurūn |
na tasya jāyate vighnaḥ kasmiṃścid api karmaṇi || 4.73 ||

One who acts after consulting those who are his well-wishers and whose advice is fit to be sought, will never face obstacles in any of his endeavors.

सतां वचनम् आदिष्टं मदेन करोति यः
विनाशम् अवाप्नोति घण्टोष्ट्र इव सत्वरम् ७४

satāṃ vacanam ādiṣṭaṃ madena na karoti yaḥ |
sa vināśam avāpnoti ghaṇṭoṣṭra iva satvaram || 4.74 ||

One who ignores the advice of the wise due to arrogance soon faces destruction like the camel with the bell tied around its neck.

उपदेश-प्रदातॄणां नराणां हितम् इच्छताम्
परस्मिन्न् इह लोके व्यसनं नोपपद्यते ७५

upadeśa-pradātṝṇāṃ narāṇāṃ hitam icchatām |
parasminn iha loke ca vyasanaṃ nopapadyate || 4.75 ||

Those who provide good advice and wish for their welfare never face difficulties in this or the world after.

उपकारिषु यः साधुः साधुत्वे तस्य को गुणः
अपकारिषु यः साधुः साधुः सद्भिर् उच्यते ७६

upakāriṣu yaḥ sādhuḥ sādhutve tasya ko guṇaḥ |
apakāriṣu yaḥ sādhuḥ sa sādhuḥ sadbhir ucyate || 4.76 ||

What greatness is there in those who return good for good? The wise say that only that person who does good to even those who have harmed him.

இன்னாசெய் தார்க்கும் இனியவே செய்யாக்கால்
என்ன பயத்ததோ சால்பு

Where is the superiority of the worthy man if he does not do good to even those that do harm to him?

हतस् त्वं प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्गं जीवन् गृहम् अथो यशः
युध्यमानस्य ते भावि गुण-द्वयम् अनुत्तमम् ७७

hatas tvaṃ prāpsyasi svargaṃ jīvan gṛham atho yaśaḥ |
yudhyamānasya te bhāvi guṇa-dvayam anuttamam || 4.77 ||

If you get killed in the fight, you will attain liberation. If you live, you will achieve fame, and also get back your house. He who fights his battles gains, irrespective of the results. (The monkey to the crocodile)

उत्तमं प्रणिपातेन शूरं भेदेन योजयेत्
नीचम् अल्प-प्रदानेन सम-शक्तिं पराक्रमैः ७८
uttamaṃ praṇipātena śūraṃ bhedena yojayet |
nīcam alpa-pradānena sama-śaktiṃ parākramaiḥ || 4.78 ||
The noble are to be placated With Submission, The Valorous by alienating him from his allies. The Ignoble may be won Over by trivial gifts, But equals Can be won over by valour.

अन्त्यावस्थो ऽपि महान् स्वामि-गुणान् जहाति शुद्धतया
श्वेत-भावम् उज्झति शङ्खः शिखि-भुक्त-मुक्तो ऽपि ७९

antyāvastho 'pi mahān svāmi-guṇān na jahāti śuddhatayā |
na śveta-bhāvam ujjhati śaṅkhaḥ śikhi-bhukta-mukto 'pi || 4.79 ||

Even while facing extreme calamities noble persons do not shed their inherent good nature; just like the conch doesn’t lose its white colour even when burn to ashes.

यत्र शक्यते कर्तुं साम दानम् अथापि वा
भेदस् तत्र प्रयोक्तव्यो यतः वश-कारकः ८०

na yatra śakyate kartuṃ sāma dānam athāpi vā |
bhedas tatra prayoktavyo yataḥ sa vaśa-kārakaḥ || 4.80 ||

Where negotiation or gifts do not work, one should practice deceit, as that only helps in taming the enemy.
