APARIKSHITA KARAKAM- PTAK-12

 SUBHASHITHANI:479

दुर्गस् त्रिकूटः परिखा समुद्रो

रक्षांसि योधा धनदाच् वित्तम्
शास्त्रं यस्योशनसा प्रणीतं

रावणो दैव-वशाद् विपन्नः ८५

durgas trikūṭaḥ parikhā samudro

rakṣāṃsi yodhā dhanadāc ca vittam |
śāstraṃ ca yasyośanasā praṇītaṃ

sa rāvaṇo daiva-vaśād vipannaḥ || 5.85 ||

Trikoota mountain was his fort, well protected by the ocean on all sides, Rakshasas for warriors, Kubera was the treasurer, Sukracharya provided the political wisdom, inspite of all this Ravana perished as ordained by fate.

अन्धकः कुब्जकश् चैव त्रिस्तनी राज-कन्यका
त्रयो ऽप्य् अन्यायतः सिद्धाः संमुखे कर्मणि स्थिते ८६

andhakaḥ kubjakaś caiva tristanī rāja-kanyakā |
trayo 'py anyāyataḥ siddhāḥ saṃmukhe karmaṇi sthite || 5.86 ||

Blind man, hunchback, and a princess with three breasts – all three gained their objectives by wrongful means when fate turned favourable to them.

यः सततं परिपृच्छति शृणोति सन्धारयत्य् अनिशम्
तस्य दिवाकर-किरणैर् नलिनीव विवर्धते बुद्धिः ८७
yaḥ satataṃ paripṛcchati śṛṇoti sandhārayaty aniśam |
tasya divākara-kiraṇair nalinīva vivardhate buddhiḥ || 5.87 ||
He will become a wise man who will keep asking questions, listens to answers and contemplates on each of them. His knowledge will bloom like a lotus when sun rays fall on it.
पृच्छकेन सदा भाव्यं पुरुषेण विजानता
राक्षसेन्द्र-गृहीतो ऽपि प्रश्नान् मुक्तो द्विजः पुरा ८८
pṛcchakena sadā bhāvyaṃ puruṣeṇa vijānatā |
rākṣasendra-gṛhīto 'pi praśnān mukto dvijaḥ purā || 5.88 ||
By asking a question a Brahmana escaped from a huge demon; a wise man should therefore be always enquiring.
THE THREE BREASTED PRINCESS

हीनाङ्गी वाधिकाङ्गी वा या भवेत् कन्यका नृणाम्
भर्तुः स्यात् सा विनाशाय स्व-शील-निधनाय ८९

hīnāṅgī vādhikāṅgī vā yā bhavet kanyakā nṛṇām |
bhartuḥ syāt sā vināśāya sva-śīla-nidhanāya ca || 5.89 ||

A daughter with limbs defective or in excess, she will be the cause of her husband’s death or loss of her own character.

 या पुनस् त्रिस्तनी कन्या याति लोचन-गोचरम्

पितरं नाशत्य् एव सा द्रुतं नात्र संशयः ९०

yā punas tristanī kanyā yāti locana-gocaram |
pitaraṃ nāśaty eva sā drutaṃ nātra saṃśayaḥ || 5.90 ||

Again, if a three breasted daughter is seen by her father, he will  face certain death.
