हित्वा.- HAVING ABANDONED OR LEFT

 SUBHASHITHANI: 482

यक्षः ( Yaksha Prasna )   

किं नु हित्वा प्रियो भवति
किं नु हित्वा शोचति।
किं नु हित्वाऽर्थवान् भवति
किं नु हित्वा सुखी भवेत् ॥५८॥ 
Discarding which one becomes loved by all?
Discarding which one does not grieve?
Discarding which one becomes wealthy?
Discarding which does one become happy?

युधिष्ठिरः  

मानं हित्वा प्रियो  भवति
क्रोधं हित्वा शोचति।
कामं हित्वाऽर्थवान् भवति
लोभं हित्वा सुखी भवेत् ॥५९॥
One who is without vanity is loved by all. 
One without anger never grieves. 
One without desires is wealthy and
one without greed is happy. - Mahabharatham

लोभ मूलानि पापानि लोभः प्रज्ञानमाहन्ति I
क्लिश्यन्ते लोभमोहिताः लोभं हित्वा सुखी भवेत् II
Lobha moolaani paapaani Lobha pragyaanam aahanti I
Klishyante lobha mohitaah lobham hitvaa Sukhee bhavet II

Greed is the root cause for sins, greed destroys one’s intelligence, deluded by greed men commit sins; therefore, by abandoning greed be happy.

एकया  द्वे  विनिश्चित्य  त्रींश्चतुर्भिर्वशे  कुरु  |
पञ्च जित्वा विदित्वा षट्सप्त हित्वा सुखी भव
|| Vidura niti
Ekayaa dve vinishchitya treemshchaturbhirvashe kuru I
Panch jitvaa viditvaa shat-sapt hitvaa sukhee bhava II
Discriminating the two by one, bring under control the three by four. Conquering the five, knowing the six, and giving up the seven, be happy.
(One means the intellect, two- right and wrong, three- friend, foe and neutral, four- sama.dhana.bheda, and danda, Five- the five senses,
Six- treaty,war,marching,biding time, double dealing and seeking asylum
Seven- woman, gambling, hunting, drinking, harshness of speech, severity of punishment, and wasting of wealth)

अथ चेत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं सङ्ग्रामं न करिष्यसि ।
ततः स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि ॥ २-३३॥

atha cettvamimaṃ dharmyaṃ saṅgrāmaṃ na kariṣyasi I
tataḥ svadharmaṃ kīrtiṃ ca hitvā pāpamavāpsyasi II BG 2.33
But, if you will not fight this righteous war, then, having abandoned your own duty and fame, you shall incur sin.

कथं ह्यहं प्रतिज्ञाय वनवासमिमं गुरॊ:
भरतस्य करिष्यामि वचो हित्वा गुरोर्वचः।।2.109.24।। Ramayana
Having sworn before my father that I would live in the forest, how can I act upon Bharata's request in disregard to my father's words?

 भक्षयति यो मांसं विधिं हित्वा पिशाचवत् 
 लोके प्रियतां याति व्याधिभिश्च  पीड्यते  ५० Manusmruti
na bhakṣayati yo māṃsaṃ vidhiṃ hitvā piśācavat |
na loke priyatāṃ yāti vyādhibhiśca na pīḍyate || 50 ||
He who does not eat meat like a fiend, disregarding the proper method, becomes popular among men and is not afflicted by disease.

लोभ-मूलानि पापानि, रस-मूलानि व्याधयः

इष्ट-मूलानि शोकानि, त्रीणि त्यक्त्वा सुखी भव
lobha-mūlāni pāpāni, rasa-mūlāni vyādhayaḥ
iṣṭa-mūlāni śokāni, trīṇi tyaktvā sukhī bhava
sins have root in greed, diseases have root in taste.
sorrows have root in desire, leave the three and be happy.
महाबलान्पश्य मनानुभावान्
प्रशास्य भूमिं धनधान्य पूर्णाम्
राज्यानि हित्वा विपुलांश्च भोगान्
गतान्नरेन्द्रान्वशमन्तकस्य 40.13
॥ Vidura niti
Behold the highly mighty and magnanimous monarchs whom, after ruling the earth abounding in wealth and corn for a while, have fallen victims to the God of Destruction, giving up all their kingdoms and extensive enjoyments.
