SUBHASHITHANI:513
यस्य मित्रेण सम्भाषो यस्य मित्रेण संस्थितिः ।
यस्य मित्रेण संलापस् ततो नास्तीह पुण्यवान् ॥ ३९ ॥
yasya
mitreṇa sambhāṣo yasya mitreṇa saṃsthitiḥ |
yasya
mitreṇa saṃlāpas tato nāstīha puṇyavān || 1.39 ||
If he has a meaningful dialogue and communion
with the one who has a sweet relationship with his friend, then there is no one
as virtuous as him.
यावच् च यत्र च शुभाशुभम् आत्म-कर्म ।
तस्माच् च तेन च तदा च तथा च तच् च
तावच् च तत्र च कृतान्त-वशाद् उपैति ॥ १९ ॥
yasmāc ca yena ca yadā ca yathā ca yac ca
yāvac ca yatra ca śubhāśubham ātma-karma |
tasmāc ca tena ca tadā ca tathā ca tac ca
tāvac ca tatra ca kṛtānta-vaśād upaiti ||1.40 ||
Whence, what, by whom, how long, when, where,
And how deserved is good or ill,
Thence, that, by him, so long, then, there,
And so, it comes. Fate has its will. - A.W.Ryder
( Idea is that every thing that happens now is very much based on our past actions other wise called 'fate')
राग-शोक-परीताप-बन्धन-व्यसनानि च ।
आत्मापराध-वृक्षाणां फलान्य् एतानि देहिनाम् ॥ ४१ ॥
rāga-śoka-parītāpa-bandhana-vyasanāni
ca |
ātmāparādha-vṛkṣāṇāṃ
phalāny etāni dehinām || 1.41 ||
Desire, sorrow, agony, restraint
and calamities – these are the fruits of the tree in the form of sins committed
by men.
आपद्-अर्थे धनं रक्षेद् दारान् रक्षेद् धनैर् अपि ।
आत्मानं सततं रक्षेद् दारैर् अपि धनैर् अपि ॥ ४२ ॥
āpad-arthe
dhanaṃ rakṣed dārān rakṣed dhanair api |
ātmānaṃ
satataṃ rakṣed dārair api dhanair api || 1.42 ||
One should save his money against hard times, save his wife at the sacrifice of his riches, but invariably one should save his soul even at the sacrifice of his wife and riches.
धर्मार्थ-काम-मोक्षाणां प्राणाः संस्थित-हेतवः ।
तान् निघ्नता किं न हतं रक्षता किं न रक्षितम् ॥ ४३ ॥
dharmārtha-kāma-mokṣāṇāṃ
prāṇāḥ saṃsthita-hetavaḥ |
tān nighnatā kiṃ na hataṃ rakṣatā kiṃ na
rakṣitam ||
1.43 ||
Life is the quintessential
requirement for carrying out the four purusharthas- Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
One who deprives himself of his life deprives everything, or one who saves his
life saves everything.
धनानि जीवितं चैव परार्थे प्राज्ञ उत्सृजेत् ।
सन्निमित्ते वरं त्यागो विनाशे नियते सति ॥ ४४ ॥
dhanāni
jīvitaṃ caiva parārthe prājña utsṛjet |
sannimitte varaṃ tyāgo vināśe niyate sati ||1.44 ||
A wise
and wealthy person should always give away his wealth for saving the lives
of needy persons. It is preferable to spend it for this noble cause,
because ultimately all wealth is destined to be lost or destroyed.
जाति-द्रव्य-बलानां च साम्यम् एषां मया सह ।
मत्-प्रभुत्व-फलं ब्रूहि कदा किं तद् भविष्यति ॥ ४५ ॥
jāti-dravya-balānāṃ
ca sāmyam eṣāṃ mayā saha |
mat-prabhutva-phalaṃ brūhi kadā kiṃ tad
bhaviṣyati || 1.45 ||
They are like me as
regards kind, substance and qualities ; say then, when and what will be the
fruit of my being their leader? ( Chitragriva to the mouse )
