Sri Vishnu
Shodasha Nama Stotram describes the 16 names of Lord Vishnu
one needs to chant while
doing different day to day activities. Reciting this sloka in the morning as soon as one
wakes up, would help one to get rid of sins and obtain the vishnu loka .
शयने पद्मनाभं च विवाहे च प्रजापतिम् ॥
oushadhe chintayedvishNum bhojane cha janArdanam |
shayane padmanAbham cha vivAhe cha prajApatim ||
नारायणं तनुत्यागे श्रीधरं प्रियसंगमे ॥
yuddhe chakradharam devam pravAse cha trivikramam |
nArAyaNam tanutyAge shrIdharam priyasangame ||
कानने नारसिंहं च पावके जलशायिनम् ॥
duhsvapne smara govindam sankaTe madhusoodanam |
kAnane nArasimham cha pAvake jalashAyinam ||
गमने वामनं चैव सर्वकार्येषु माधवम् ॥
jalamadhye varAham cha parvate raghunandanam |
gamane vAmanam chaiva sarvakAryeshu mAdhavam||
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुलोके महीयते ॥
ShoDashaitAni nAmAni prAtarutthAya yah paThet |
sarvapApa-vinirmukto vishNuloke mahIyate ||
(1)औषधे चिंतये विष्णुं, Oushade Chinthaye Vishnum
-Think of him as Vishnu, when taking medicines.
(2) भोजने च जनार्दनं, Bhojane cha Janaardhanam,
-As Janaardhana, while partaking food.
(3) शयने पद्मनाभं च, Shayane Padmanaabham cha,
-Think of Padmanaabha when falling asleep
(4) विवाहे च प्रजापतिं|, Vivaahe cha Prajaapathim.
-And as Prajaapathi during the sacred times of marriages
(5) युद्धे चक्रधरं देवं, Yuddhe Chakradharam devam
-Remember Chakradhara, in times of war and conflicts
(6) प्रवासे च त्रिविक्रमं, Pravaase cha Trivikramam
-And take the name of Trivikrama, while away from home (unfamiliar
surroundings)
(7) नारायणं तनु त्यागे, Naaraayanam Thanu thyage,
Hold onto Naaraayana, when leaving your mortal coils
(8) श्रीधरं प्रिय संगमे, Sreedharam priya sangame
- And think of Sreedhara when in the company of your spouse.
(9) दुःस्वप्ने स्मर गोविन्दं, Duswapne smara
Govindam
Remember Govinda to avoid nightmares
(10) संकटे मधुसूधनं, Sankate Madhusoodhanam
Call upon Madhusoodhana in the times of sadness
(11) कानने नारासिम्हं च, Kaanane Naarasimham Cha,
When alone in the Forest, Think of Narasimha
(12) पावके जलशायिनं, Paavake
Jalashaayinam
When amidst the
scorching fires, remember Jalashaayin
13)जलमध्ये वराहं च, Jalamadhye Varaham
Cha
When you are in the middle of waters, Think of Varaha
(14) पर्वते रघु नन्दनं, Parvathe Raghu
Nandanam
And when climbing high mountains, invoke Raghu Nandana
(15) गमने वामनं चैव, Gamane Vaamanam Chaiva
While on a journey, forget not Vaamana
(16) सर्व कार्येषु माधवं, Sarva Kaaryeshu
Maadhavam
And in all Activities, propitiate Maadhava
