SUHRID BHEDA- SEPARATION OF FRIENDS-13

 SUBHASHITHANI:551

sa hy amātyaḥ sadā śreyān kākinīṃ yaḥ pravardhayet |

Koshah koshavatah praanaah praanaah praanaa na bhoopateh II2.92

He is the best minister who increases the revenue every day at least by a Kaakinee; Treasury is the real life of a king not his normal breathing.

kiṃ cārthair na kulācāraiḥ sevatām eti pūruṣaḥ |
dhana-hīnaḥ sva-patnyāpi tyajyate kiṃ punaḥ paraiḥ || 2.93 ||

A man is not honoured by others for following the family traditions religiously; destitute of wealth he is deserted even by his wife; how much more, then by others.

ativyayo 'napekṣā ca tathārjanam adharmataḥ |
moṣaṇaṃ dūra-saṃsthānāṃ koṣa-vyasanam ucyate || 2.94 ||

Over-spending, poor supervision, acquiring wealth by unrighteous methods, plundering by those at a distance from the capital, are called the bane of the treasury.

-Thirukkural 478
Even though the income (of a king) be small, it will not cause his (ruin), if his outgoings be not larger than his income.

kṣipram āyatam anālocya vyayamānaḥ sva-vāñchayā |
parikṣīyata evāsau dhanī vaiśravaṇopamaḥ || 2.95 ||

Even a rich man, equal to Kubera, spends inconsiderately with out looking at his income, is soon reduced to penury.

brāhmaṇaḥ kṣatriyo bandhur nādhikāre praśasyate |
brāhmaṇaḥ siddham apy arthaṃ kṛcchreṇāpi na yacchati || 2.96 ||

A brahmana, a kshatriya, or a relative should never be appointed for a treasury; A brahmin does not give wealth even that is provided for the purpose without reluctance.

niyuktaḥ kṣatriyo dravye khaḍgaṃ darśayate dhruvam |
sarvasvaṃ grasate bandhur ākramya jñāti-bhāvataḥ || 2.97 ||
A kshatriya shows the sword quickly in a money matter (and defies the master); relatives swindle the whole thing , having seized it, by virtue of their kinship.

aparādhe'pi niḥśaṅko niyogī cira-sevakaḥ |
sa svāminam avajñāya carec ca niravagrahaḥ || 2.98 ||

A servant in employment for a long time is fearless although in fault; disregarding the master he acts without restraint.

upakartādhikāra-sthaḥ svāparādhaṃ na manyate |
upakāraṃ dhvajī-kṛtya sarvam eva vilumpati || 2.99 ||

One who has helped the king, when in power, doesn’t hesitate to commit sins; making a banner of his service, he engages in plundering everything.
