THE HANDS- HASTHAM- (हस्त :,पाणि:, कर:)

SUBHASHITHANI:140

Laxmi resides at the tip of the hand, sarasvati in the middle, Govinda at the root. Hence one should take ᳚darshan᳚ of one's hand in the morning.

iya sītā mama sutā sahadharmacarī tava||73-26||
pratīccha caināṁ bhadra te pāṇīṁ ghṇīśva pāṇinā|

pativratā mahabhāgā chāya iva anugatā sadā||73-27|| Ramayana
This is Sita, my daughter, she [will] be your follower (companion) in dharma.
Take her wishfully, let auspicious things betide you, Accept her, holding her hands with yours; She who is prosperous and husband-devout, will always be abiding you like your own shadow.

Then that virtue-souled sage saw what all that has happened earlier, by his yogic exaltation, as though it is a citric fruit in his own palm. [1-3-6]
(Brahama's boon to Valmiki bhagavan)
Don’t visit empty handed — venue of a sacred ritual, another person’s house, place of worship, a pregnant lady, an old person, a child, the king, God and the Guru.

What can a wicked person do to someone who has the weapon of forgiveness in his hands ? Fire fallen on ground without any grass extinguishes by itself.
hastasya bhūṣaa dāna satya kaṇṭhasya bhūṣaa
śrotrasya bhūṣaa śāstra bhūṣaai ki prayojanam ॥
Giving is the adornment for the hand; truth is the embellishment for the throat; good counsel (scriptures) is the enhancement to the ear; what is the use of (other) ornaments?

pustakasthā tu yā vidyā parahastagata dhanam ।
kāryakāle samutpanne na sā vidyā na taddhanam ॥
Knowledge locked up in a book, and money lent to others are both useless because they can not be summoned when the need arises.
A ear assumes importance by hearing not by earrings, hand by donation not by bangles. Likewise, the body gets its importance only when used for helping others and compassion towards others - not by applying sandal paste.
Protect me from oil. Protect me from water. Protect me from loose binding. Do not hand me to a fool requests a book (to its owner).
Just as a clap cannot happen with just one hand, similarly any work deprived of effort will not obtain fruit.
