THE WICKED MAN-KHALAH-

SUBHASHITHANI:248
Bhaditopi bahu sookti vistaraih kim khalo jagati sajjano bhavet I
Snaapitopi bahusho nadeejalaih gardabhah kimu hayo bhavet kachit II

Wicked men do not change to good men even after a lot of advice with the best of teachings. Washing a donkey many times in the river water, cannot change it to become a horse.
Aarambha ramaneeyani vimarde virasaani cha I
Praayo vairaavasaanaani samgataani khalaih saha  II
Association with the wicked starts nicely, becomes disagreeable after passage of time, and then in a flash becomes enmity.
Yatha paropakaareshu nityam jaagarti sajjanah
Tatha para apakaareshu jaagarti satatam khalah
Just as the virtuous are vigilant about helping others, the wicked are keen on
 creating harm to others.
Aho susadrushi vruttirmardalasya khalasya cha
Yavanmaukhagatam pindam tavanmadhurabhashanam
Strange it is that the nature of Mrudangam is similar to that of a wicked man.
As long as the mouth is covered with paste so long will sweet sound emerge.
Akhubhyah kim khalairjnatam khalebhyashcha kimakhubhih
Anyatparagrutkhatatkarma yesham na vidyate
What can rats learn from thieves or thieves from rats when
the work of both is digging into others’ houses?
Apoorvah kopi kopaagnih khalasya sajjanasya cha
Ekasya shamyati snehaat vardhate anyasya vaaritah
The ‘fire of anger’ of virtuous and wicked are very strange in deed. In the good it gets extinguished easily when pacified, while it aggravates more in the case of the wicked.
Api  vibhava viheenah prachyuto vaa svadeshaan
Na hi khala jana sevaam praatayat unnataatmaa
Tanu truna mupa bhungte na kshudhaartopi simhah
Pibati rudhiram ushnam prayashah kunnjarrraaaanaam
Great men never subordinate themselves to the wicked even when they have lost all their wealth or banished from their own country. The lion even if it is hungry, will not eat grass, and will like to have the blood of an elephant only.
dhanyā badhirā andhāḥ sa eva jīvanti mānue loke ।
na
śṛṇvanti piśunajana khalānāddhi na prekante ॥ - sap‍taśatī
Blessed are those people who live in this world as deaf and blind, for, they do not have to listen to malicious words of the slanderers or see the prosperity of the evil.
Vayasah parinaamepi yah khalah khala eva sah I
Supakkamapi maaduryam nopayaateendra vaarunam II
One, who is evil by nature, he on gaining maturity is still an  evil person only. Bitter pumpkin does not mellow into sweetness even after becoming fully ripe.
kā khalena saha spardhā sajjanasyābhimānina |
bh
āṣaa bhīṣaa sādhu dūṣaa yasya bhūṣaam ||
Who can compete with the wicked ,arrogating to be respectable men ?
Their speech is terrifying, they abuse the wise men and all these they consider it to be a decoration.
analpakam dharAyAm hi sarvajnasyaapi dAruNAH ।
Aropayanti mAlinyaM kAkola iva te khalAH ॥- vishvagunAdarsha
The wicked don’t spare even the wise men, and they smear them with deadly poisonous false allegations.
