KAAMAH- कामः - DESIRE,LUST

 SUBHASHITHANI:293

You have the right to work, but do not become so degenerate as to look for results. Work incessantly, but see something behind the work. Even good deeds can find a man in great bondage. Therefore be not bound by good deeds or by desires for name and fame. - Swami Vivekananda

எற்றைக்கும் ஏழ் ஏழ் பிறவிக்கும் உன் தன்னோடு
உற்றோமே ஆவோம் உனக்கே நாம் ஆட்செய்வோம்

In what ever births we take, we should never be separated from you, and we will serve you in all our humility; and grant us the boon that we should desire nothing else.

You are what your deep, driving desire is
As your desire is, so is your will
As your will is, so is your deed
As your deed is, so is your destiny.

Men after money will not hesitate to forsake friends and relatives, amorous persons forget fear and shame, persons who are after knowledge won’t mind losing pleasure and sleep, hungry people lose their physique and prestige.

There is no craving in my heart, O lord of the Raghus; I speak the truth and you are the spirit indwelling the hearts of all. Grant me intense devotion to your feet , O crest jewel of Raghus , and free my mind from faults like concupiscence ( lust) etc.

Desire is never satisfied by the enjoyment of desires; it only increases the more, as fire when butter is poured upon it.

The following are the ten types of sin a person commits due to his desires - hunting, gambling, sleeping during day (laziness), flirting with women, intoxication, triple symphony of song, dance, and instrumental music and wandering aimlessly.

Any person with self-respect would prefer death to humiliation (or living thus). Fire will cease to exist, but never get cold.

If the very names of these three things, desire, anger, and confusion of mind, be destroyed, then will also perish the evils which flow from them.

O best of the Bharatas, in strong persons, I am their strength devoid of desire and passion. In all beings, I am the desire that is not opposed to dharma.

The Supreme Lord said: It is lust alone, which is born of contact with the mode of passion, and later transformed into anger. Know this as the sinful, all-devouring enemy in the world.

While contemplating on the objects of the senses, one develops attachment to them. Attachment leads to desire, and from desire arises anger.

Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of the memory. When the memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and when the intellect is destroyed, one is ruined.

One must get over lust by teaching oneself detachment. By giving up lust, one can give up anger. One will give up greed once he realises that wealth is the source of so many miseries. Fear can be let go by proper understanding of scriptural truth.
