"Siru pancha moolam"- is an ancient Tamil work by Kaari Aasaan. It is so named because each verse in it contains five elements which are useful to the society, even as five roots of medicinal plants help patients from sickness.

SIRU PANCHA MOOLAM

Like trees which produce fruits without flowers, there some people who become wise even though they are very young; Also, there are men of literature who are great even though they have no formal education, like some plants grow on their own without any nurturing.

The scriptural scholars is the tree whose root is the vedic hymn chanted during sandhyaa kalaas , the religious worship and rituals acts being the leaves. The root of the tree must be protected at all cost as the whole tree derives strength from it. If the root is lost then neither the leaves nor the branches would remain.

Excessive attachment to something or somebody is always associated with fear. Attachment is the root cause of all suffering. Therefore, one should live happily by giving up attachment.

An enemy, though powerful can be easily uprooted by a patient man, if he is shaken by the wind of disaffection and if his supporters are gradually estranged, like a tree which, though big, can be easily uprooted shaken by the wind and its mass of roots gradually giving way.
