SUBHASHITHANI:297
Wish everyone a very happy Sri Krishna Jayanthi ( 10.9.2020).

śuka-mukhād amṛta-drava-saṁyutam I
pibata bhāgavataṁ rasam ālayam
muhur aho rasikā bhuvi bhāvukāḥ II SB 1.1.3
O expert and thoughtful men, relish Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literatures. It emanated from the lips of Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī. Therefore this fruit has become even more tasteful, although its nectarean juice was already relishable for all, including liberated souls.
karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo ’stvakarmaṇi
Your duty is with the action only , never with its fruits; so let not the fruits of action be your motive , nor you should be attached to inaction.

बुद्धौ शरणमन्विच्छ कृपणा: फलहेतव: ||BG2. 49||
buddhau śharaṇam anvichchha kṛipaṇāḥ phala-hetavaḥ
Action impelled by the desire for the fruit is indeed far inferior than that performed in evenness of mind . O Arjuna! Take refuge in the evenness of intelligence. Pitiful are those who are impelled by the desire for the fruit of action.
कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिण: |

karma-jaṁ buddhi-yuktā hi phalaṁ tyaktvā manīṣhiṇaḥ
janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ padaṁ gachchhanty-anāmayam
The wise endowed with equanimity of intellect, abandon attachment to the
fruits of actions, which bind one to the cycle of life and death. By working in
such consciousness, they attain the state which is free from all suffering.

The Supreme Lord said: Those who perform prescribed duties without desiring the results of their actions are actual sanyāsīs (renunciates) and yogis, not those who have merely ceased performing sacrifices such as agni-hotra yajña or abandoned bodily activities.

The
Blessed Lord replied: Sages have known as renunciation ( sanyasa) the
renouncing of actions without desire; the relinquishing of the fruit of all
actions is called relinquishment ( thyagam )by the wise.

However,
dear Arjuna, these works of purification ( Yagya,Daana,Tapas) should be
performed with freedom from attachment to material goods and without
expectation of any rewards resulting from these actions. This, O Partha, is My
decided and final word.

The
worker who is over-attached to his work and activity, and to the results of his
work, who wants to enjoy the good results, who is always jealous of the other’s
possessions, is selfish, greedy, violent, impure, and who is affected by both
pleasure and pain, is a man of the impure, Rajas-nature.
