MOOLAM-(2)- मूलं- ROOT, ORIGIN, SOURCE

 SUBHASHITHANI:303

Kantakasya cha bhagnasya dantasya chalitasya cha I

Amaatyasya cha dushtasya moolat uddharanam varam II

A broken thorn in the foot, a loose tooth in the mouth, and a crafty minister should be mercilessly uprooted.

Kadalee kandavad dharmo na rohati bahir gatah I

Chaatastu phalam charu soote panaa moolavat II

Dharma does not show off externally like the stem of a plantain tree.; rather, like the root of a jack fruit tree , it lies dormant and puts forth its fruit.

Lobha moolaani paapaani rasa moolani vyaadhayah I
Ishta moolaani shokaani treeni tyaktvaa sukhee bhava II
Avarice is the root of all sins. Gluttony is the origin of all diseases. Desire is the origin of all sorrows. Give up these three and be happy.

II Mahabharatham

Sarvathaa dharma moolo arthah dharmascha artha parigrahah I
Itaretarayor neetau vihi megho dadhee yatahaa  II
Wealth must always have dharma as its foundation and dharma must have a proper object in view. Just as the clouds and the sea are inter-dependent, so are Dharma and Artha.

Thiru chinna maalai
( Thiru chinnam-is a type of trumpet used in temple processions- Thiru chinna malai is a tamil work by Sri Vedanta Desika )
( Hearing the pathetic call of Gajendra,Lord Vishnu appeared to save him )

Moolam bhujangaih shikharam vihagaih

Aascharyametat khalu chandanasya
paropakaaraaya satam vibhutayah  II
Sandal wood tree provides shelter to snakes at its root, birds rest on its top, monkeys play on its branches, and bees hover around its flowers. It is great, that saintly men offer helping hand, like the sandal wood tree, to others unmindful of their nature.

The hurricane which can easily uproot the toughest and the tallest trees is yet unable to harm the grass growing on the ground . Likewise, the strong and the mighty do not trouble or bother the weak.

Iha yatkriyate karma tat paratropabhujyate I
Siktam moolasya vrukshasya phalam shaakaasu drusyate II
In this world, whatever deeds we do, there results are seen elsewhere. (Just like) A tree on being watered at its roots its fruits are seen by its branches.

" Sita abandoning all comforts, impelled by the love towards husband not thinking about sorrows, entering forest unpopulated with humans, being happy with fruits and roots, devoted to the service of Her husband, even in forest is getting great happiness like in a palace, the one with golden limbs, always with a smiling talk, not suited to misfortunes - that this Sita is bearing all this suffering."  ( Hanuman seeing Sita at Ashoka vanam )
