PHALAM-(4)- फलं- FRUIT, RESULT

 SUBHASHITHANI:299

“Thoughts are roots; Words are leaves; Actions are fruits! Every success tree has all working harmoniously”- Ancient wisdom

Gangaadi teertheshu vasanti matsyaah devaalaye pakshi ganaascha nityam

Fishes and other beings live in river Ganga. Many birds make nests and live in temples. They don’t get any benefit out of it ,for they lack the required understanding of scriptural truth. It is the Bhava ( mental disposition ) that will produce the result for the visit to temples or bath in the holy rivers, not the mere physical action.

Their birth is praiseworthy, who tend to pluck a tasty fruit from a difficult place ( ie try to achieve difficult and worthy task ), much like the camel in a desert.

Manu smruti
nādharmaścarito loke sadya phalati gauriva |
śanairāvartyamānastu karturmūlāni kntati || 4.172 ||
Unrighteousness, practised in this world, does not, like the Earth (or the Cow) bring its fruit immediately; but, accumulating gradually, it cuts off the roots of the perpetrator.

II Pancha tantra
Na ganasyaagrato gachet saddhe kaarye samam phalam
Yadi kaarya vipattih ssyaat mukhas tatra hanyate
One must never go in front of a group as a leader. If the work is completed satisfactorily then everyone claims equal credit. In case, something goes wrong, then the entire blame is put on the leader.

Ramayana
prashamashcha kShamA chaiva Arjavam priyavAditA ।

Austerity, forgiveness, righteousness, pleasant talking are all considered signs of weakness by the wicked. In fact, these are all the excellent qualities of noble men.

Sevitavyo mahaa vrukshah phala chaayaa samanvitah I
Yadi devad phalam naasti chaayaa kena nivaaryate II
One must always take shelter of a big tree with lots of fruits and shade. In case due to bad luck, there are no fruits - still you will have the shade. Who can take that away from you?
Just as the flowers and fruits grow on trees at the appropriate time without any inspiration or inducement, in the same manner the consequences of good or bad deeds done by people long ago have to be faced by them in due course.

Skanda purana

Just as trees and plants bring forth flowers and fruits only at the appropriate time, the results of action done by one in previous births will fructify only at the opportune time.

kāmadhenuguṇāvidyā hyakāle phaladāyinī ।
pravāse mātsadṛśī vidyā gup‍ta dhana smtam ॥
Knowledge (vidyā) has the attributes of kāmadhenu (the celestial cow, that grants all wishes) and also gives fruit even in inopportune times. It’s like  a mother when away from home.  Knowledge is deemed as a hidden treasure.
।९।।Chanakya niti
Svayam karma karotyaatmaa svayam tat phalam ashnute I
Svayam bhramati samsaare svayam tasmaat vimuchyate II
Man does his action and bears its consequences. Himself he roams in the world and himself gets liberated from the cycle of birth and death.

Pancha tantra
Aphalaani durantaani samavyaya phalaani cha I
Ashakyaani cha vastooni naarabheta vichakshanah II
Wise men will not take up a task that will definitely fail, end in destruction, yields results that barely break-even or already known to be impossible.
IIChankya niti
Yatha vruksaa phalanyatra parehaam upakaarakaah I
Narah tathaiva sa dhanyah parebhya yasya jeevanam  II
Like the trees growing their fruits for others benefit , blessed are those men who devote their life to the others cause.
