The loss of wealth, the mental suffering caused by the evil events, the sad but secret events in the family, the things of being cheated, and being insulted should not be disclosed by the wise man.

It is better for one deprived of wealth to offer his life to fire than to solicit an uncivil miserly person.

A man comes to shame from poverty; from shame loses moral fortitude; loss of moral fortitude leads to humiliation; that leads to dejection; dejection leads to sorrow; overcome by sorrow he loses his intellect; loss of intellect leads to total destruction; poverty, alas, is the abode all miseries.

( Compare with Bhagavad Gita ch2 sl 62-63 )

Better be silent than telling lies. Better be impotent than be promiscuous. Better death than be a rumour-monger. Better live on alms than be feel powerful based on money belonging to someone else.

It is better to keep the cow shed empty rather than keep a wicked and offensive bull.    It is also preferable to have a woman of ill repute as a wife rather than have an immodest and shameless daughter-in-law.  Similarly, it is better to live in a forest but not in a city ruled by an imprudent ruler, and it is better to face death rather than keep the company of vilest of persons.
