Wealth is comparable to the dust on the feet, Youth is fleeting like wild mountain stream, Life is unsteady like a rolling drop of water, Existence evanescent like froth; therefore, whosoever with a calm mind does not perform virtuous actions, which opens the gate to heaven, being over taken by old age and full of contrition, is burnt by the fire of sorrow.

 More Fleeting than lightning, is the life of the body. Ponder a while on this matter yourself.

upārjitānāṃ vittānāṃ tyāga eva hi rakṣaṇam |

taḍāgodara-saṃsthānāṃ parīvāhaivāmbhasām || 1.149 ||

Accumulated wealth is saved by spending just as incoming fresh water is saved by letting out stagnant water.

yad adho 'dhaḥ kṣitau vittaṃ nicakhāna mitampacaḥ |
tad-adho nilayaṃ gantuṃ cakre panthānam agrataḥ || 1.150 ||

The miser who buries his wealth deeper and deeper under the earth , actually makes a passage for it, beforehand,  to go to hell.

nija-saukhyaṃ nirundhāno yo dhanārjanam icchati |
parārtha-bhāra-vāhīva sa kleśasyaiva bhājanam || 1.151 ||
One who wants to earn money at the cost of his comforts will become
the object of suffering like a donkey which carries loads for others.

dānopabhoga-hīnena dhanena dhanino yadi |
bhavāmaḥ kiṃ na tenaiva dhanena dhanino vayam || 1.152 ||

Those who are not liberal or depriving themselves of enjoyment of their wealth are considered rich, on that score why should not we be considered rich by so much money buried in the caverns of the earth?

dhanena kiṃ yo na dadāti nāśnute
balena kiṃ yaś ca ripūn na yādhatte |
śrutena kiṃ yo na ca dharmam ācaret kim
ātmanā yo na jitendriyo bhavet || 1.153 ||
What is the use of wealth that is not spent either in charity or on oneself?
What is the use of strength that is not used to control enemies?
What is the use of knowledge of the scriptures if one does not follow Dharma? What is the use of oneself when one has not subdued his  senses?
