यः काकिणीम् अप्य् अपथ-प्रपन्नां
समुद्धरेन् निष्क-सहस्र-तुल्याम् ।
कालेषु कोटिष्व् अपि मुक्त-हस्तस्
तं राज-सिंहं न जहाति लक्ष्मीः ॥ १२५ ॥
yaḥ
kākiṇīm apy apatha-prapannāṃ
samuddharen niṣka-sahasra-tulyām |
kāleṣu koṭiṣv api mukta-hastas taṃ
rāja-siṃhaṃ na jahāti lakṣmīḥ ||3.125 ||
One who saves pennies like thousand golden coins by preserving them from being wasted in the wrong pursuits, but spends crores of golden coins at proper times – Goddess Lakshmi (of wealth) does not desert such a person. (काकिणीम्- A small value coin )
यशस्करे कर्मणि मित्र-सङ्ग्रहे ।
प्रियासु नारीष्व् अधनेषु बान्धवेष्व्
अतिव्ययो नास्ति नराधिपाष्टसु ॥ १२६ ॥

karmaṇi mitra-saṅgrahe |
priyāsu
nārīṣv adhaneṣu bāndhaveṣv
ativyayo
nāsti narādhipāṣṭasu || 3.126 ||
There is no such thing as excessive
spending on eight occasions- On a sacrifice, on a marriage, on distress, on destroying
the enemy, on act worthy of praise, on gathering of friends, on beloved wife,
on indigent relations.
मूर्खः स्वल्प-व्यय-त्रासात् सर्वनाशं करोति हि ।
कः सुधीः सन्त्यजेद् भाण्डं शुक्लस्यैवातिसाध्वसात् ॥ १२७ ॥
mūrkhaḥ
svalpa-vyaya-trāsāt sarvanāśaṃ karoti hi |
kaḥ sudhīḥ santyajed bhāṇḍaṃ śuklasyaivātisādhvasāt || 3.127 ||
A fool, for fear of a
small expenditure, brings about the loss of the whole; Will a sensible man abandon his merchandise due to fear of excessive toll?
परस्परज्ञाः संहृष्टास् त्यक्तुं प्राणान् सुनिश्चिताः ।
कुलीनाः पूजिताः सम्यग् विजयन्ते द्विषद्-बलम् ॥ १२८ ॥
parasparajñāḥ
saṃhṛṣṭās tyaktuṃ prāṇān suniścitāḥ |
kulīnāḥ pūjitāḥ samyag vijayante dviṣad-balam || 3.128 ||
Soldiers who know each
other, well pleased, ready to even sacrifice their lives, born in noble families,
when suitably honoured will conquer the enemy.
सुभटाः शील-सम्पन्नाः संहताः कृत-निश्चयाः ।
अपि पञ्च-शतं शूरा निघ्नन्ति रिपु-वाहिनीम् ॥ १२९ ॥
subhaṭāḥ śīla-sampannāḥ
saṃhatāḥ kṛta-niścayāḥ |
api pañca-śataṃ śūrā nighnanti
ripu-vāhinīm || 3.129 ||
Even five hundred good
warriors, of impeccable character, closely knit, resolute – they can defeat the
whole army of the enemy.
शिष्टैर् अप्य् अवशेषज्ञ उग्रश् च कृत-नाशकः ।
त्यज्यते किं पुनर् नान्यैर् यश् चाप्य् आत्मम्भरिर् नरः ॥ १३० ॥
śiṣṭair
apy avaśeṣajña ugraś ca kṛta-nāśakaḥ |
tyajyate kiṃ punar nānyair yaś cāpy ātmambharir naraḥ || 3.130 ||
A man who is mean,
indiscriminating, fierce, ungrateful, and selfish is avoided by even great men,
what to mention about common people.
सत्यं शौर्यं दया त्यागो नृपस्यैते महा-गुणाः ।
एतैस् त्यक्तो महीपालः प्राप्नोति खलु वाच्यताम् ॥ १३१ ॥
satyaṃ
śauryaṃ dayā tyāgo nṛpasyaite mahā-guṇāḥ |
etais tyakto mahīpālaḥ prāpnoti khalu vācyatām || 3.131 ||
Truth, courage,
compassion, and liberality are important qualities of a king; one who abandons
them is sure to be censured.
यो येन प्रतिबद्धः स्यात् सह तेनोदयी व्ययी ।
स विश्वस्तो नियोक्तव्यः प्राणेषु च धनेषु च ॥ १३२ ॥
yo yena
pratibaddhaḥ syāt saha tenodayī vyayī |
sa viśvasto niyoktavyaḥ prāṇeṣu ca dhaneṣu ca || 3.132 ||
The one whose rise and
fall is connected with one’s own, he should be appointed as body-guard to protect
life and the treasury.
