JAANAATI-KNOWS

 SUBHASHITHANI:657

Prashnottararatnamalika

ko andho yo akArya rataH
    ko badhiro yo hitaani na shRunoti

ko mUko yaH kAle
     priyANi vaktum na jAnAti

Who is blind? He who is involved in bad actions. Who is deaf? He who does not listen to good advice. Who is dumb? He who cannot speak pleasant words at appropriate time.

Ramayana  4.6.22

Thus addressed by Rama, Lakshmana replied, 'I recognise neither the armlets nor the earrings. I only recognise the anklets as I used to bow at her feet daily.'

adhītya caturo vedān dharmaśāstrāṇyanekaśa:
paraṃ tattvaṃ na jānāti darvī pākarasāniva ।।
Having studied the four Veda-s and the Dharmashastra-s one does not know the highest Truth (without practising the teachings), just as the spoon knows not the taste (of the excellence of the dishes) of cooking.

A poet composes nice, meaningful poems and a wise man understands the essence of his creations (and consequently publicize the same) just like the tree produces flowers and blowing wind disperses their fragrance all around and far off.

kaviḥ karoti kāvyāni svādu jānāti paṇḍitaḥ |
sundaryā api lāvaṇyaṃ patirjānāti no pitā ||

A poet composes nice, meaningful poems and a wise man understands the essence of his creations. The beauty and charm of a woman is known to the husband and not the father.

Paravaachyeshu nipunah sarvo bhavati sarvadaa.
aatmavaachyam na jaanaati jaanannapi cha guhyate.

 People are  always expert in  criticising others for their
shortcomings, whereas  they  either do  not know their own
shortcomings or even if they are  aware  about them, they try to
conceal them as a secret ..

yasya nasti vivekastu kevalam yo bahushrutah l

na sa jaanaati shastraarthaan darvee paakarasaaniva ll

Just like the spoon/ladle does not know the taste of the food, a person who has learnt the Scriptures, but lacks discrimination, does not appreciate their meaning.

na kaścidapi jānāti kiṃ kasya śvo bhaviṣyati
ataḥ śvaḥ karaṇīyāni kuryādadyaiva budhdimān
No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow. So doing all of tomorrow’s task today is a signature of the wise.

A person who doesn't know the defects(holes in the character) of his/her own, is eager to know the defects of others. But, a person who knows the defects of his/her own(tries to correct his/her own defects), will never care about other's defects.

yo mām evam asammūḍho jānāti puruṣhottamam
sa sarva-vid bhajati māṁ sarva-bhāvena bhārata

Those who know Me without doubt as the Supreme Divine Personality truly have complete knowledge. O Arjun, they worship Me with their whole being.
