HEEDLESSNESS-NEGLIGENCE-PRAMAADAH- प्रमादः

SUBHASHITHANI:232
 "A little neglect may breed great mischief "

Pramaadah sampadam hanti prashrayam hanti vismayah.I Vyasanam hanti vinayam  hanti shokashcha dheerataam.
Negligence destroys wealth, modesty destroys arrogance, vices destroy humility,
and sorrow destroys courage.

Aayushah kshana ekopi sarva ratnair na labiate I
Neeyate sa vruthaa yena pramaadah sumahaanaho II
You cannot trade or buy back even a second of time when it has run out,
with all the jewels in the world. So, wasting time is the height of all foolishness.
Adhyatma Upanishad

Never should one be heedless in devotion to Brahman; ‘heedlessness is death’ so aver the philosophers of Brahman in regard to this science.
Viveka chudamani
na pramādādanartho'nyo jñānina svasvarūpata |
tato mohastato'ha
dhīstato bandhastato vyathā || 322 ||
There is no greater danger for the Jñānin than carelessness about his own real nature. From this comes delusion, thence egoism, this is followed by bondage, and then comes misery.
(Manu Smriti.2-213).
It is the nature of women to attract men in this world; for that reason the learned
are never unguarded in the company of females. ( Sloka is intended to show the
frailty of men and not to show women in bad light )

Patanjali Yoga Sutra lists nine obstacles including 'pramaada' in the path of Ashtanga Yoga;

4.negligence (pramāda), 5.idleness (ālasya), 6.non-abstention --lack of control-- (avirati), 7.erroneous perception (bhrānti-darśana), 8.the state of not attaining (alabdha) to any yogic stage (bhūmikatva) (and) 9.unsteadiness --

Let there be no neglect of truth.  Let there be no neglect of virtue.  Let there be no neglect of welfare.  Let there be no neglect of prosperity.  Let there be no neglect of the Veda that has been studied and its teaching.

Indiscrimination,inertness,heedlessness and delusion – these arise, O Arjuna, when thamas is predominant.

That happiness which deludes the self from beginning to end, and which arises from sleep, indolence, and negligence, is said to be in the mode of ignorance(Tamas).
