अकालो नास्ति धर्मस्य जीविते चञ्चले सति ।
नाकाले म्रियते जंतुः विद्धः शरशतैरपि
।
कुशकंटकविद्धोऽपि प्राप्तकालो न जीवति ॥

akAle mriyate jantuH viddhiH shara shatairapi ।
kusha kaNTakaviddho api prApta kAlo na jIvati ॥
Even if hundred arrows are thrown , if it is not the time , one will not die.
However, if it is time up ,he will not live when pierced with a blade of kusa grass.kusha kaNTakaviddho api prApta kAlo na jIvati ॥

Akaalo naasti dharmasya jeevito chanchale sati

Gruheetah iva kesheshu mrutyunaa

There is no inapportune time for doing one’s
duty (dharma) in this ever changing world .
As though caught by the god of
death (Yama) in the locks of hair follow dharma with out any postponement.
अप्राप्त-कालं वचनं बृहस्पतिर् अपि ब्रुवन्।
प्राप्नुयाद
बुद्ध्यवज्ञान मपमानं च शास्वतम् IIHitopadesa
Even Bhruhaspati uttering a speech out of its
season will be contemned as one
wanting in discretion and meet with eternal
disgrace.
दुर्जनैर्
उच्यमानानि संमतानि प्रियाण्य् अपि।
अकाल-कुसुमानीव
भयं संजनयंति हि॥Hitopadesa
Durjanair uchayamaanaani sam mataani
priyaanyapi I
Akaala-kusumaaneeva bayam samjanayanti hi II
Wicked people, even if what they say is
pleasant and agreeable , it only
generates
fear in wise men, like when flowers blossoming out of season.

अकाले कृत्यमारब्धं कर्तुर्नार्थाय कल्पते ।
तदेव काले आरब्धं महतेऽर्थाय कल्पते ॥Mahabharatam

Any work started at
a wrong time will not bear fruit. While the same work started at the opportune time
will bring great results.
अकालचर्या विषमा च गोष्ठी कुमित्रसेवा
न कदापि कार्या ।
पश्याण्डजं पद्मवने प्रसुप्तं धनुर्विमुक्तेन
शरेण भिन्नम् ॥
Wandering at inopportune time, engaging with bad group,
friendship with rogues should be avoided at all times. Look! In the forest , the
sleeping birds were killed by the arrows of the hunter.
यथा वृक्षेषु
वल्लीषु कुसुमानि फलानि च ॥
स्वकालं नातिवर्तंते तद्वत्कर्म पुराकृतम् ॥Skanda purana

Just as trees and plants bring forth flowers and fruits only at
the appropriate time, the results of action done by one in previous births will
fructify only at the opportune time.
कार्यमण्वपि काले तु कृत मेत्युपकारतां I
महानप्यु पकारो अपि रिक्ततामेति अकालतः II
Kaaryamanvapi kale tu kruta metyupakaarataam I
Mahaanapyu pakaaropi riktataameti akaalatah II
An act of kindness, however small , done at the hour of need will be considered
as
a great help. But, even a huge help done at the wrong time will have no
impact.
नाकालतो भानुरुपैति योगं
नाकालतोऽस्तं गिरिमभ्युपैति ।
नाकालतो हीयते वर्धते च
चन्द्रः समुद्रोऽपि महोर्मिमाली IIMaha bharatham

Na akaalato bhanurupaiti

The sun does not rise at the wrong time
Nor does it set at
the wrong time
The moon waxes and
wanes never at the wrong time
So also the high tide In the ocean .
नबुद्धिशक्त्याऽऽध्ययनेनक्यं
प्राप्तुं विशेषं मनुजैरकाले।
मूर्खोऽपि चाप्नोति कदाचिदर्था
न्कालो हि सर्वं पुरुषस्यदाता।। Mahabharatham

In spite of intelligence and learning Men cannot achieve great results if time is not
favourable . If time is favourable, even
a fool may obtain undeserving wealth sometimes. It is time which decides what one
gets and when.
कामधेनुगुणाविद्या ह्यकाले फलदायिनी ।
प्रवासे मातृसदृशी विद्या गुप्तं धनं स्मृतम् ॥चाणक्य नीति

kāmadhenuguṇāvidyā
hyakāle
phaladāyinī
।
pravāse mātṛsadṛśī vidyā guptaṃ dhanaṃ smṛtam ॥

Knowledge (vidyā) has the attributes of kāmadhenu (the celestial cow, that grants all wishes) and also
gives fruit even in inopportune times. It’s like a mother when away from home. Knowledge
is deemed as a hidden treasure.
